I used both the private and shared ride.
From Cancun to Chiquila used the private ride, we must have arrived at peak time as the loading zone was jammed packed and our driver had problem finding a spot. No biggie, we had our first Tecate while waiting. He came with a sign and our name on it and we were on our way. He stopped at a gas station, we got a six pack and some snacks and we were on our way. Sweet. At Chiquila, he handed us our ferry ticket and at Holbox, the cab driver was waiting for us to take us to our hotel. They have this transfer down to a T.
The nice thing about the private transfer is that it takes the stress out of missing the shared ride due to flight delays or customs, while a bit pricier (160 for 2), you know you will have a ride no matter how late your flight gets to Cancun.
Very nice experience. By 3 PM we were on the beach sipping our first pina colada..
From Chiquila to Holbox, we used the shared ride. This share ride DOES NOT include the taxi from hotel to the port neither the ferry so you must be prepared to get both. No big deal it is very easy to do. Van departed promptly at 1:30 and we were at the airport by 3:45.
350 for van + 150 ferry + 40 taxi. (540 pesos about $30 US per person)
Here is my pet peeve. When we got to the airport, the ride ends at Terminal 2, the driver said it would be 50 pesos more per person to get us to our terminal (Terminal 3). I know for the two of us that was an extra 5 bucks, but I just personally dislike these practices and I grew up in Mexico. I think it is misleading, either charge the correct amount or state it before hand.
Despite this, I would use them again, it beats driving, renting a car, and paying for parking at Chiquila and doing the same on the way back to Cancun.
