You will have to use your imagination, unless you take the tour the information is limited, but the different building styles can be seen around the site. Worth a stop, also the nearby beach is very nice.

We visited here on our second to last day and it was disappointing. We didnt really know what we were looking at as there was no information when going around the site.
I made the mistake of only carrying 2 small bottles of water, which we had to ration as they do not sell any water or refreshments at the site, which is a good 10 minutes walk from anywhere. We paid 8 euros in a taxi both ways and 6 euros each for entry, even though we had 2 senior citizens with us, and they would not accept the senior citizen rate as we did not carry our passports on the day.
The children did go in for free, but we were quite disappointed to be honest.

One of the fine archaeological sites in Crete with a lot of history. Just outside Malia 5-6 minutes drive.

this is not an ancient palace but newly built 'something' with only myths. No any historically proven facts, just imagination. Doesn't worth 15 euro to visit and to see not a real palace.

You can relieve your guilt feelings here....

Archaeology is one of the must do things to do on Crete, but if you are not heavily into it and you do not want to go all the way to Knossos you can come here instead and still get a pretty good idea of what it is all about.

Not so commercial as Knossos and nowhere near as crowded it is mainly ''on the flat'' so there is not so much clambering about as Knossos but you can still get the general idea of what a Minoan Palace is all about.

Signage is not too good, and the ''guide book'' is almost non-existent but still useful. If you want to see the main''finds'' you will have to go to the museum in Heraklion

The site seems to get larger every year as more is excavated
