Description: Hotel de France has 8 rooms, most of them with private shower and toilet. The hotel was recently renovated and decorated in the style of the fifties. Next to the terrace on the market square, the hotel has a cozy bar and restaurant. The dining room and bar both have a fireplace and on the first floor there is a balcony overlooking the town square. The cozy and informal atmosphere of the hotel makes it ideal for families and groups, if desired, a floor or the whole hotel can be rented. The café is open every day from 09.00 to 24.00. The restaurant is in the summer with the lunch open from 12:00 to 15:00 and dinner from 19:00 to 22:00. From 15:00 to 18:00 there is a snack menu available. In winter, the kitchen is open with lunch from 12:00 until 14:00 and with dinner from 19:00 to 21:30. On Friday there is happy hour from 19:00 to 20:00. We regularly organize a pleasant evening with a live band or other special evenings. In the restaurant you can choose from a daily changing menu or 'à la carte' and the dishes are prepared with fresh local produce. We have the ability to accommodate groups up to 35 persons and if required to prepare special meals.

Stopped here for light refreshments, looked beautiful. Sat at a table and waited for someone to take our order - after some time a waitress came to us to take our order, from her accent she was from the UK, took our drinks order first and gave us the menu - we decided to just have a drink and go back to the place and eat later in the day. Oh that seemed to get right up her nose! She brought our drinks, slammed them down, told us we would have to move if someone need to eat and stormed off! Needless to say the tip she got was to be less rude! We watched her do the same to another family - manners costs nothing, would not recommend the place at all unless you like being treated like a guest in Fawlty Towers!

It’s a lovely place to while away an afternoon in the middle of this pretty village. Early June was not too busy and the staff at the Hotel de France were friendly. Food was good - you won’t be disappointed to eat here.

This bar / coffee / restaurant has had it all its own way for too long. Thank goodness other places have opened up in the square where you can get a drink. My chief disappointment was going there for 'Happy Hour' on Friday evening and paying half-price (1.5 euros) for a glass of red. The wine came out of a cardboard box and was almost undrinkable. Shame on them. I am not a wine snob but they were serving the cheapest of the cheap wine. This is what happens when you have had a near monopoly on customers for years. I was also unimpressed when I returned a few days later and they simply forgot my order.....I had to go in and reorder. Bad, bad, bad

Lovely afternoon in Aubeterre so lunch at the HDF seemed a good idea. Sat outside amongst the trees. Great location in a beautiful french village square. Chose from the menu du jour at 15.50 Euro each. About 3 choices for each of the 3 courses on the menu. We had asparagus (it's the season) veloute and a greek salad to start. Both very good. We both chose chicken curry for our main course. Like a green Thai curry served with rice and vegetables and accompanied by poppadoms and pickles. Could have been a little more spicy but apart from that it was good. Orange cake and creme brulee to finish and both very good. Service was also friendly.
All in all a very pleasant lunch in a beautiful location. Well worth a return visit.

We stopped for lunch. Very good meal from La Plate du Jour and a good place outside in the sun to watch the world go by. The one trouble here is that everyone was speaking English so you hardly felt you were in France!
