“Returned for a second year. Love La Belardiere!”

Stayed here for a fortnight in July 2014 and re-booked for 2015 after only a few days of being there. Kath and Roger are fabulous people who are on hand to help and offer advice without being intrusive. Th gites are finished to a high standard and well thought out, particularly for those with young families. The large walled garden, decked seating area for meals, fenced off pool means that you can allow even very young children to wander around free of danger meaning the grown-ups can relax! Kath and Roger have a large selection of bikes (and child seat) for all ages that are free to use. A very rural setting, but only about 5k from Descartes with all the amenities you'll need. Fabulous place!

Kath and Roger are wonderful people who have got it just right they keep low profile but are ready to help you enjoy holiday if you get stuck with language barrier/ booking outings etc.
The two gites are furnished to a very high standard, clean, comfortable with every thing you need during your stay.
Beautiful garden to wander in and wonderful countryside all around.
The weather was an added bonus it was absolutely gorgeous. The pool was kept lovely and clean and was really appreciated in the warm weather.
Interesting little villages and markets to visit as well as chateaus and other bigger entertainments if wanted. Well recommended.

“A splendid gite making for a splendid week's break”
Reviewed 3 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We arrived to drizzle. Then the sun came out all week. Then we left to drizzle. We were always going to think we'd got lucky wherever we'd booked. But without doubt we got lucky with Le Potager.

Gites all look pretty similar, to be honest, from the websites and (if one still reads them) the brochures: they've all got a decent well-equipped kitchen, clean rooms, somewhere pleasant outside to eat, good facilities to amuse all-comers and plenty of nearby attractions. So it's the little things that the owners do that make a difference.

Like having built not one but two outdoor 'pavilions' for guests to eat in; we ate breakfast with the morning sun in the one, then wandered up the hill a bit for drinks and dinner with the warm evening rays in the other. (And Roger quad-biked a BBQ up for us so we didn't have to drag it.)

Like taking the greener-fingered among us on a wild orchid tour of the neighbourhood.

Like dropping us down to the Creuse for a (self-propelled) canoe cruise - and then picking us up an hour and a half later at Descartes.

The only thing they didn't do was shop for us. (Hang on, there was a welcome basket of essentials.) And anyway, to be frank, one of our contingent would have given this review half a star had Roger or Kath deprived him of that particular privilege.

When I was about twelve, my family holidayed at a little gite in the Pyrenees run by a retired military man. His place was lovely; and he was lovely. My parents said I'd remember it and him for a long time. I still do. I'm sure I'll remember Le Potager, Kath and Roger for a long time as well. Thanks, guys.

“totally delightful and restful experience”
Reviewed 12 October 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Nothing was too much trouble for the accomodating hosts of these beautifully renovated farm buildings, set in a tranquil and lush pocket of the Loire Valley. We arrived, a gaggle of friends and family, some on time and others in the depth of night to the warmest of greetings, which set the tone for our entire week's stay. The large, renovated barn perfectly suited our group, which ranged from couples to twenty somethings and included a 2 year old. We delighted in the on site amenities of securely-fenced pool, the walled orchard with hammocks and games, chickens, large outdoor table and BBQ. We were able to venture out by car, bicycle and walking to fabulous local and regional sights.

“This lovely holiday home was a great base to see the Loire Valley”
Reviewed 8 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We, a group of friends, stayed in both properties and could not have wished for a better place to stay. Apart from such helpful owners and excellent facilities at the houses, La Belardiere is an easy journey to some of the best Loire Chateaux and as well as Tours and Saumur. For those interested in the local wines, ask Kath to tell you where best to go for tastings and for those interested in walking the houses have details of some easy to follow circular paths. The pool was just a dream!
Disabled access to both houses is easy but would recommend the larger one as closer to the pool and large outside dining area.
Cannot comment on the local restaurants as we found it easier to BBQ each evening but noted that there are a number of good ones nearby.
