“Perfect dazs in the sun”
Reviewed 16 September 2017 for a stay in September 2017

This place is a revelation. Everything in Casa Baba, from location and interior through facilities up to service was just impeccable for us. With a cool drink, enjoying the sunset under the palm trees by the pool, one can easily forget everyday business. That was exactly what we were looking for and what we got… and even more. Self-catering great was easy. We used to make shopping lists and manager Riccardo took care of all the rest. All needed groceries were delivered directly to the house. Also, we spoiled ourselves with a private chef from time to time which was available on short notice and also organized by Riccardo. And the cooking was amazing!
All in all, perfect days in the sun! :) Thank you Casa Baba for a wonderful time.

“Simply beautiful.”
Reviewed 6 August 2017 for a stay in April 2017

You feel like being in paradise and at home at the same time when you arrive at Casa Baba. The close-by beach is super stunning but relaxing at the Aqua Baba pool in the nice garden, surrounded by flowers, trees and homegrown veggies is just beautiful and so relaxing. The host Riccardo is making sure that you feel comfortable and gives good advice on what to do or where to go if you really want to leave this hidden gem. Casa Baba gives you a certain spark in your eye which is still visible when you're back in "real life". :)

Where do I even begin?
From the moment of arrival, I was warmly welcomed... almost like I reached my home away from home! The area is serene and unbelievably beautiful (thick "jungle" all around), the only sounds are the birds during the day and wind rustling through the palm trees at night. Often, when I was relaxing during the evening I could hear the sounds of waves greeting the shore, pure bliss.
The garden stretches far and wide, perfect for relaxing, and there is always ambient music in the background... nothing makes me happier than music... well almost.
The rooms are spacious, and beautifully decorated, and the bathrooms? Like a mosaic dream!
With large living areas - and a magnificent indoor zen garden - I was transported to another world.
The manager, Riccardo, is sensational with his guests. We went shopping for food, and boy oh boy the feasts he prepared were to die for... (I might be writing from heaven)
One of the most phenomenal things is the jungle sunset, especially from the grand upstairs terrace. We picked limes out of the garden and enjoyed mojitos on the terrace.
IF ONLY I COULD STAY LONGER!
A quick 2 minute walk through a lush forest environment, and woohoo you are on the beach!
Was really one of my best trips ever! Not one complaint... not a single one!
I will be back soon, no doubt about that!

Dear Florian,

if we were in Hollywood, you would probably get an Oscar for your performance. Drama seems to be your expertise. After your first review to Casa Baba has been withdrawn from TripAdvisor as it did not comply with TripAdvisor’s submission guidelines I´m now more than happy to answer to your second review. If all you stated in your review was true, what would that say about you as a caring father and husband? Letting your entire family including 3 children stay in a dirty, mosquito invaded, bathroom sewer smelling, horrible house with serious electric dangers and even life danger by the pool.
Something doesn´t match here.

It’s like with everything in life. You can see the glass either half full or half empty. You and your wife Claire are typical European fault-finders. Walking around with your camera, taking pictures during your holiday of all possible deficiencies while you are surrounded by paradise.
After years of experience in hotel business, hotel owners know very well that certain type of guest who takes joy in complaining. If you check the best places worldwide, you will always find 2-3 very negative reviews, although 200 other reviews state the opposite.
As the matter of fact, you and your wife are the only 2 people (in TripAdvisor as Claire Chombeau and Florian M) who have ever written a negative review to Casa Baba on all possible platforms. TripAdvisor and also other platforms are free review pages, easy to access and not censored.
Everybody who has stayed with us can write about his experience, the same way you did. If Casa Baba was as horrible as you describe, how come nobody ever mentioned anything suspicious in any of their reviews? Casa Baba is for Lovers, not for Haters. A little hideaway with soul.

Your first complaints were about the hardness of the mattress which we than changed for you, that water was not provided for free on a daily basis, that you had to pay 1,5$ for each capsule of coffee if you wanted to enjoy a Nespresso.
Further you complained that the housekeeper was storing her drink in the fridge on a long and hot working day, while she was cleaning the house for you, so she could have a cool drink during her break.
Housekeeper Hadiyah has washed loads and loads of laundry for you and your children during your stay and I was quite surprised to hear from her that you didn’t even give her a little tip for her additional work to show your appreciation.
The washing machine is free to use by our guests. Having your laundry done is not part of the service though. Housekeeper Hadiyah did it anyway to give a good service to our guests. You made her feel like your servant and she wasn´t happy about the treatment.
Our staff is like family to us, we treat them with love and respect. Your stated in your review “locals are friendly and welcoming”. Thinking about the fridge and the laundry, I don’t think the locals feel the same way about you. Friendly and welcoming should always go both ways.

For your initial discomfort, we have even offered you a free breakfast and also free dinner for 5 people with a private chef as a compensation which you enjoyed with your family and did not have to pay for.
After you left Casa Baba you requested an additional 50% of refund of your total balance in addition to the breakfast and dinner that had already been given to you. Wanting a refund and not getting one can be frustrating. After you have been told that a further refund cannot be granted,
the house became more dirty, more unbearable and more dangerous with every email exchange.
Writing a bad review is a very common way to let of steam. But please understand that you cannot eat the whole cake and then expect it to be scratched off your bill.

Your wife Claire states in her review that you could not find another location to stay. I wonder where you have looked. November is clearly low season on Zanzibar and most Hotels are not even half booked. The island full of available locations at this time of year.
Please also remember that you paid 50% of your total balance only one day after arrival. Meaning, you had already time to inspect the place.
I think no one who is reading your review will understand how you can be so uncomfortable in a place and still pay the outstanding 50% upon arrival. Nobody can force you to pay money that you have not payed yet for a service you have not received yet.
Especially if you feel the place is a big disappointment. Instead, you are fighting to get an unrealistically huge refund after your complete your stay. A logic which is hard for me to understand.

With best wishes from paradise,
Riccardo
