“Great place”
Reviewed 6 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Great place to spend your holidays. Beautiful view of the beach, with nearly private access to the sea. Meals and wine on the terrace with the sound of the ocean. Spectacular. Peace and quiet, no tourists and beset locals.
I recommend !!!!

“Simple, lovely house right on the beach - has everything you need and then some!”
Reviewed 21 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We stayed at Villa Tulia for 12 nights end of July through early August 2016. The house is right on the beach, first big plus. My husband and I have three kids - ages 7, 5, and almost 2, so we could let the 5 and 7 year old play on the beach in front of the house and we could watch from the veranda.

The house is simple in that it does not have TV or Wi-Fi, which was just fine for us. There are 3 bedrooms (one bedroom has a king size bed; one bedroom has a "full" size bed; the other bedroom has two twin-sized beds). Each bedroom has its own bathroom. The kitchen is fully functional. The owners provide drinking water which is a big bonus.

We strongly suggest hiring Sule (pronounced Sue-lay) the cook who will make delicious meals right in your kitchen; we used him almost every day we were there. For a reasonable price, he brings all the food for breakfast and dinner and he'll make whatever you want. The house comes with a housekeeper (Pilli) who works every morning. She tidies the house, washes dishes, takes out the trash, ensures there is soap and plenty of drinking water. She started eating our food (awkward) but once we addressed it, she stopped.

There is a neighbor next door (same kind of house), from Belgium originally. We loved having him there as he knows what the "usual" is for the neighborhood, which is very quiet. He has a very friendly dog which our kids loved seeing. He didn't make a peep and had his grandchild over when we were there. Felt very home-y.

You can't beat this location for a house in Zanzibar. When the tide goes out, you can walk almost a kilometer, but wear sea-shoes (or old sneakers) so you won't get hurt in case you step on a sea urchin. During high tide, the water comes right up to your foot path. This is a quiet village town with not a lot going on in terms of people trolling the beach trying to sell you things. There are a few places to walk to for food (Villa Kivu has excellent pizza starting at $7 per pizza), but we didn't go out much as our personal chef (!), Sule, was so awesome.

The house is "guarded" by Masai who have their own small house on the property. We asked them once to help chase off some boys who wouldn't go away and they took their duty quite seriously. There were quite a few Masai on the property and we reported that to the owners as we didn't expect so many hanging around.

We wish we would have picked up some wine and beer in Stone town as you can't get any at a store outside of Stone town (wine, beer, and fruity drinks are sold at bars, but we had hoped to have some wine with dinner at the house).

I will attach photos and Sule's contact information soon. I will be going back with some friends in a couple of months.

The owners answered all of our questions and even followed up asking for our honest feedback after our trip. They are helpful and attentive. I just knew we could contact them at any moment and they would help us do whatever we needed to do, though we never needed that. There are two property managers (Munisi and Alei) who will help you get a rental car, address any property issues, etc. Alei barely speaks English, which was a problem when he took us to Stone town and tried to explain where he had parked (in Swahili). Someone helped us translate, but still.

Will definitely be back!

Liked best: The location - right on the beach in a quiet part of Zanzibar
Liked least: The housekeeper had bad body odor :( I've let the owners know so they can address it with her. We have lived in Africa for 15 years; it was unusually bad/bad.

“Paradise”

Exhausted after a difficult year (far too much work, surrounded by too many people, and living in a too-crowded space) this place was paradise. Peaceful and beautiful. Snowy white sands, with skies and an ocean that changed color, from silvery grey, through pale pinks and light blues to a strong, vivid turquoise (it was impossible to stop taking photos). A spacious house, beautifully designed and furnished, with African sculptures, textiles and carved decorations. Large bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, and comfortable beds. A well-equipped kitchen, and a terrace with a large table, where you eat (and cook!) looking at the ocean. A hammock strung out between palm trees, close to the ocean, where you can while away the hours reading and sipping drinks. Friendly – and picturesque – Masai warriors guarding the place!. A lovely, long beach inviting you to take long walks. And, should you feel too relaxed by the calm and silence, there is a bar, and also a couple of restaurants just 5-20 minutes away. I would love to go back.

“Absolutely delightful”

I spent 10 days in Villa Tulia together with my husband and a couple of our friends. I never thought that I would visit paradise, but it really happened. It’s a place where you can cut-off yourself from everyday life. You will find there peace, silence (except for the ocean, which didn’t disturb me at all), sun, beautiful and unforgettable views and very nice people.
Villa Tulia is very well equipped, clean, with very nice African style decorations and big terrace with beautiful view. You can rest either on the magnificent beach with white sand or in a hammock under the palm tree. The local lady is coming every day, changing beds, cleaning the house, washing the dishes, etc. The house is also guarded by Masai men, who are very friendly. You need only 5-10 minutes’ walk to get to very nice bars and restaurants. If you need to use internet, there is a nearby resort run by Munisi, where you can always do it.
The owners of the house – Jacek and Bella – were very helpful with giving us some advice how can we enjoy our stay, what is worth seeing, where we can do the shopping and eat tasty local food. They also arranged a car hire for us and a guy who picked us up from Stone Town when we arrived.
I loved our stay in Villa Tulia and I hope to go there again in the future.

“Magical place in Zanzibar”

Villa Tulia is unique place. Not only because of comfortable condition to live in and stylish arrangement of interior, but mainly because of beautiful view of the ocean. It is fantastic experience to see every day siting at the terrace or walking along beach, colors of ocean changes and to follow life existing around it. If you want go to swimming you only need one minute to be in the ocean. You can fell safeness because the nearby cay is natural protection against strong surf. The kindness and commitment of the stuff makes you, fell as you were at your own flat. There are a several nice places situated on the beach near the Villa in which you can taste original food. It tasted fantastic. I reminisce my holiday in Villa Tulia and I m sure, that I will come back to this magic place.
