WOW!!!!!!!!! What a beautiful resort. It is definitely a 5 star plus plus plus. My wife and myself were there for 3 days and were just amazed at the service and quality of food on the resort. From the moment we checked in we were treated like VIP and this continued for the remainder of the week. The quality and choice of food is excellent. The theme dinners were great especially the beach barbeque. We wish we could have stayed there longer. The staff were very friendly and so willing to accommodate any request that we had. The infinity pool is fantastic. We watched the beautiful sunset every day from the pool. We would recommend this resort to anyone and will be definitely going back next year again and again and again
This is a very relaxed place with great customer service.
The beach is amazing with beautiful white sands and fabulous blue sea. We went on a few trips that we organized ourselves which was well worth it especially as we got to see other areas of the island.
The hotel rooms offer a lovely space to relax and are kept very clean by housekeeping who do a great job twice a day.
Everyone at the hotel are so friendly and cant do enough for you. The food was good especially the beach party on our first day of arrival- amazingly.
Staff that stood out for us who have outstanding customer service skills- professional and polite at every service.
Last but certainly not least a big shout out for Kim the GM of the resort who made sure that we were well taken care of. .
A great holiday made extra special by the Royal Zanzibar Team.
We sure will return back - Please Please Book your Vacation with this Resort and dont settle for anything less..

In November 2017 we have been visiting Tanzania. We made some nice program were we would stay at the Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort for one week, traveling to Selous for the second week and then returning to the Royal Zanzibar Beach resort for the final week. I must say, we had a wonderful first week where we enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, the nice food and drinks and the great room.

After staying in Selous for a week, we returned to find out that we had been upgraded to the junior suites with a nice view of the ocean. This room was even more spacious as the first. The staff recognised us again and did their very best to make our stay as beautiful as it was in the first week.

Although we had a terrific time and would most certainly come back here, the are some point for improvement.

First there is the food. This was very nice but most of the time, the food was not hot enough. We mostly tried to choose the food which was freshly prepared like the great diner on the beach on Sundays, or the life cooking outside the restaurant.

Then there was the junior suites. There is a little window next to the front door. However, there is no curtain in front of this window so you wake up by the sum shining directly on the bed, very early in the morning. We fabricated some blinds by putting a plastic bin-bag in front of this window. This was sufficient to keep the sun out this early in the morning. Maybe you could make a small curtain in front of this window.

The most annoying thing were the guest who reserved beach beds very early in the morning. If you wanted a nice place at the pool or the beach you had to get there very early in the morning. Even after waking very early and arriving at the beach at 6:30 am, a lot of the beach beds already had towels on them. Despite the signs saying saying that beds could not be reserved and that the belongings where removed when vacated for more then one hour. In both weeks we have never seen this happening. Even one day when we looked at the pool after diner and before going to bed, there where already beach beds reserved by guests. If you warn people to remove their belongings, you should do so to end this.

We're delighted that you enjoyed both of your stays with us and appreciate your kind words about our atmosphere, the rooms and the food and drinks. We will be sure to let our staff know you commented so positively on their efforts.

Thank you for your additional comments. I will discuss them with the departments involved, particularly about the beach beds. This is an ongoing struggle and we will continue to do what we can to stop it from happening.

I spent hours searching for a Zanzibar resort with a dream turquoise water swim-able beach. Royal Zanzibar had it all. It's beautifully built with excellently maintained grounds and rooms. Activities - water aerobics, volleyball, kayaking, etc. No loud music. Tranquil massage rooms overlooking the ocean. Beautiful sunsets.
Bed was very comfortable, designer rooms and bathrooms all to a high standard. Plenty of hot water.
Each meal a banquet with sooo many choices. Eggs cooked to order at breakfast, plus juices, yogurt, etc. Lunch and dinner- always a veg curry, several rices, cooked veggie varieties, potatoes many ways, salad fixings, hot soups and meat varieties. Big dessert selection. Excellent table service. Most staff understand English.
Plenty of shaded beach lounges, heads up: reserve yours early with a towel on it before you head to breakfast. Staff passing through frequently to get your drinks order. All inclusive indeed - including drinks. So nice not to have to tip or sign bills constantly. Very casual dress. Masai guards added a colorful touch.
Well organized check in and check out! About a one hour drive from Stonetown, a bit more to the airport.

Installation of fans in the food and dining area would keep the flies away. Only complaint.

A luxurious hotel right on the beach. having your breakfast in front of the turquoise ocean, at the beach restaurant is a must. Quality and kindness of people, spacious rooms. Good and various food + diner on the beach!

Room Tip: Choose Superior Deluxe (view + mosquito net). Avoid the E and F buildings: just in front of a bar, where they play music until 23:30.

Thank you so much for your very kind review of Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort.

We appreciated your kind remarks, particularly about our staff! I was also happy to see that you had enjoyed breakfast at our beach restaurant, Samaki. The view truly is spectacular and not as many guests as I would have imagined take their breakfast in that location. Perhaps you'll help us to start a trend!

Royal Zanzibar was recommended to us by friends- and we were not disappointed. The resort is well laid out and the grounds are immaculate. Our room was spacious and spotless with beautiful views from our balcony. The staff are great - smiling, friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The views out to sea from the infinity pool are spectacular especially at sunset. There were activities ranging from yoga to water pilates and no crush at the pool areas. Our only complaint was that the food was very bland. After a couple of days we mentioned this to management, and from then on they prepared a special dish for us each evening. I consider this to be excellent service, but still don't understand why (we were told) other guests don't like tasty/spicy food. I would have thought that a separate station at the buffets with spicy food would have solved the problem. On most nights there was some form of entertainment - and on one balmy evening, dinner was served poolside. Thoroughly recommended

Dear Hugh,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your wonderful review of Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort and offer a thorough recommendation! Please say thank you also to the friends who recommended that you stay with us!

We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the details you added for potential guests.

I am sorry you found the food to be bland, this is not a comment we hear often. In fact our concerns are usually the other way, that we have too much spice. We do everything we can to accommodate the widely varied palates of our very diverse clientele, including as you so kindly mentioned, preparing a special dish just for you. Unfortunately it's not a matter of labeling the food as when we've experimented with putting it out the spicier food simply isn't eaten. Even the mild curries on the African / Indian corner are often left and we have an intense dislike of wasting food, particularly in the environment we live in. We do try to ensure that the majority of our sauces are served on the side so that guests who wish to have their food very plain can take it as is but those who wish to have a gravy, sauce or spice can make their own adjustments. We appreciate your comments and as always we will continue to try new dishes and new items on the buffet to ensure we appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

Thank you once again for choosing Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort for your stay, we hope to welcome you back in the near future.
