The location is fantastic (this is the best beach in Ngapali), the beach front bungalows are nice and the restaurant area is very pleasant.
The main problem is that the all facilities are a bit run down for the value requested. We did not have have hot water for a large part of our stay and breakfast was not very good.
I could see the eco concerns in maintaining the area clean but also on educating the beach vendors to do the same, something that should also be followed by other hotels on the beach
There are many very good road restaurants nearby.
The fishing village neaby is a good stroll and the morning arrival of fisherman at the next beach is very nice

Room Tip: The beach front bungallows are the best

The rooms are very basic and simple. The owner didn't invest anything the last 20 years. He rent the rooms as an ecco place for 65 Euro. They didn't switch on the hot water the first 2 days until I complaint 2 times. He knows how to save money! It is old and run down but I loved it. I had a beachfront room. The view was fantastic and the area was very romantic. It remains me on my travelling time when I was a young man. On that time we paid a few dollars for the same romantic place. All resorts are totally overpriced. For the same view you can easily pay 400 dollars. Averages staff earn a lousy 10-20 Dollar a day and those fancy resorts charge that emazing amount per night. There is no balance. The restaurants on the back sides of the resorts are very good with fresh seafood for a very reasonable price. I recommend to eat outside. I stayed 5 nights and it was a good experience. Now I'm in Cambodia where 3-4 Star hotels cost at the beach in sihanukville only 30-60 dollars.

It's a bit tricky booking this place but after a skype call and a transfer into a German account we secured 5 nights in a rakhine style garden room. The lodge is a 20 min taxi from the airport (7000kyat) hidden down an alleyway and nestled on the beach. The rustic and a bit rough and ready (thats why I love Myanmar!) garden room looks out onto Lillis bar and breakfast area of palm trees, hammocks and beach. A huge room with 4-poster bed, mozzie net, fan, wet room and complimentary gin and rum! Cleaned daily. Breakfast is massive- platters of fruit, European toast and proper butter, fresh coffee, and the usual mohinga/noodles/pancake/rice choices. The German owner Oliver has been here 20 years and works tirelessly to educate and create sustainable jobs for locals, clean and protect the beach and works with the government and village elders to end illegal practices like sand mining and selling coral. It's utterly relaxing, wish we had longer. I highly recommend the banana milkshakes, seafood pasta and a sunset beachside massage.

The Laguna Lodge does not try to be something different or pretend that they are something different. They are a eco lodge on the beach in among 5 star (mainly overpriced properties). The rooms are big, we had one on the beachfront - spotless, cleaned every day, hot water and you fall asleep to the sound of the waves. The breakfast is very good - if a tad slow in arriving but who is in a hurry! My only slight suggestion is that they just get a couple more sun loungers. It was amusing and a little annoying to watch the antics with people running out and putting towels/books on their sun loungers - I thought we were all a bit big for that. The food in the evening and during the day is excellent also and you are away from the noise of the busy road. The beach is stunning and lends itself to running/walking as it is 5 km of flat white sand. Massages are available on site just beside the restaurant under the shade of the palm trees. All in all, the Laguna Lodge is worth a few nights and is value for money.

Room Tip: Beach front if you can get them are the best.

The Lodge is situated right on the beach (about 5 meters walk away), surrounded by palm trees and the odd hammock dotted around. There is a small rustic seating area outside to eat, slightly set back from the beach so you can enjoy the stunning views of the sea and horizon without being imposed on by others enjoying the beach.
The food is lovely, breakfast offers an array of fruits and breads brought to your table automatically, along with coffee, there's also a variety of other options in addition to this (the banana pancakes are delicious). Dinner was my favourite meal to eat there, the chef was fantastic and created some beautiful dishes.

The room was beautiful; a first floor room with ensuite bathroom, huge kind bed, desk, and balcony looking directly onto the beach 2 meters away. All essentials were provided (mosquito net/shampoo/soap/towels), rooms were cleaned daily in the morning.

Near the outside seating area they offer a full body massage for about an hour or so. You lie on a bed outside under the palm trees listening to the crash of the waves and the birds. It's a must. It's the most wonderful experience, utterly relaxing, and leaves you feeling blissfully chilled.

The only stumbling block that appeared for me was unreliable and often inaccessible wifi. However being in the area we were I felt it was to be expected and although it was frustrating at times, it's a place of rest and relaxation, I shouldn't have been glued to the internet anyway.

All in all, I would highly recommend Laguna Lodge, the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The location was perfect, not only the proximity to the beach, but also to the local area, restaurants, activities etc. It was something of a paradise.

Room Tip: Best views are from the first floor rooms on the beach front.
