We stayed at this unit in the Aloha Lani for the month of June while searching for a permanent home. Jon was wonderfully accommodating and his place was comfortable, clean, and conveniently located.
Location: 10/10. Perfect location-- 2 blocks (5 min walking) from the Royal Hawaiian Center and downtown Waikiki, but situated in a peaceful neighborhood right next to Ala Wai River so you don't have to deal with rowdy tourists. You can see the river, golf course, mountains, and a private school. We enjoyed the cool breeze from the lanai while watching the kayakers practice every morning and evening. At night, you can see the mountains dotted with glittering lights along the river. Absolutely beautiful!
Comfort: 10/10. Jon clearly put a lot of effort into furnishing and decorating his home to make it comfortable for renters. We liked the coordinated cheery red and burgundy tones throughout the apartment, and the comfy foam mattress.
Cleanliness: 10/10. Upon arrival, the apt didn’t meet our standard of cleanliness so we contacted Jon, who was immediately responsive and arranged for the apartment to be professionally cleaned again from top to bottom. He even provided brand new pillows and a new coffee maker, and took out area rugs and plants as requested. We sincerely appreciate the great lengths he went to ensure that our stay was as pleasant and comfortable as possible!
Friendliness: 1000000/100. Jon really demonstrated the aloha spirit by going above and beyond his responsibilities to make us feel welcome and at home! He personally greeted us on arrival and gave us a tour of his apartment and all the amenities. He even stocked an outdoor storage room next to his unit with boogie boards, snorkeling gear, and beach umbrellas and chairs. In addition to being a great landlord, Jon gave us helpful advice in our housing search and was always supportive and approachable. The deposit was returned in a timely manner—he drove by to drop it off for us at dinner!
Amenities: 9/10. A/C and fast wireless internet in the unit. The building is older but well-maintained with an outdoor saltwater pool and laundry facilities available on site. The only inconvenience was no washer and dryer within the unit. However, the laundry room is large and we never had to wait. Prepare quarters; the change machine often runs out and each cycle costs $2. Another thing to watch out for is the front door slamming 2/2 strong tradewinds if the balcony sliding door is open. Don’t stick your fingers along the edge of the door!
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and were a bit wistful to leave! We HIGHLY recommend this unit to anyone looking for a convenient and clean rental near Waikiki (especially with the great price!). To Jon, we’d like to say “Mahalo no kou ho`okipa”—Thank you so much for your hospitality!
