We really enjoyed our visit to Pearl Harbor. We reserved the narrated tour for the Arizona memorial the day before. Make sure you go online 2 months prior to your visit to make reservations or you may be able to reserve the day before as they do open up more tickets one day prior. The narrated tour is very well done. This is a great stop to learn about the history of Pearl Harbor.

If you are in Hawaii, even if you are not staying on Honolulu, get to the USS Arizona Memorial. But make sure you are in the right state of mind. This IS a memorial to the dead sailors.

I had tried to get tickets online to Pearl Harbor but it was sold out. I took the gamble of getting there at 6am to be able to get free tickets and I happened to be the 2nd person online. Within 20 min the line was through the parking lot! We were able to get tickets to the 7:30 show where we watched a 20-25 min video of the history of Pearl Harbor. We then took the quick boat ride to the Arizona and had about 15 min there to take in our surroundings.

Once you arrive go and get your tickets for the boat trip to the memorial site. Note that there is an informative video prior to boat trip
This is a must to see
The tours go every 15-30 minutes
Staff including volunteers were amazing all steeped in pride
An amazing experience
Thank you to all involved
Getting to Pearl Harbour we tried the "Thebus" service and from Waikiki it was number 42. A day pass costs $5.50 an adult. Takes about an hour to get there and drops you off basically at the gate. On return you need to go to the bus stop on the freeway ( takes about 3 mins to walk). Other things to see will cost you but they are very interesting also. Walk through the Missouri or walk through the submarine Bowfin. There is an aircraft museum there also
A word of warning no bags allowed inside the base and there is a small fee to store them

We had just come from a 7 day cruise where the rained followed us and arrived at Honolulu to another drizzly day. Not optimal to really appreciate this memorial. Plenty of souvenirs to be purchased and a history lesson in a 25 minute movie pre boarding the boat out to the Arizona. Not what I expected- a simple wall of honour with names of the fallen. Then back in the boat. I guess had it have been a clearer day, we would be seen the Arizona thru the water...but unfortunately, weather can't be helped
