We were really disappointed in the River Walk. And let me tell you, YOU WILL WALK!! I've always seen restaurants and shopping and music and showing it as "the place to be" on TV and ads. The area we saw was all restaurants. One after the other, well you only eat once! Very few shops down on the river level and they are mostly tourist trap junky kind of items. If you climb the stairs and go up to street level it's stores like Macy's etc. Not local shops. You better bring along bug spray because you will be doing a slap dance if you stand still for a minute. The river boat does not run very late and it only goes once an hour. You would think with such a popular tourist place there would be a boat every 20 minutes but no! The regular boat ride you will not get any "points of interest or information" from the driver. They are not allowed. If you want to know any history you have to pay for a guided tour. There are several "payment plans" (credit card only, no cash and you pay the boat driver) We got the $16 each deal, good for 24 hours. We've had people tell us that it isn't as good as it used to be in that area.
