Almost missed going, so happy I went.

A fully-stocked aircraft carrier, is a must see.

Lot's of history here. On street, metered parking and right by the beach.

You will learn so much about the history of the wars it took part in.

Glimpse into the life of a sailor. All the different levels were very interesting. I felt like an explorer on this ship. We took our 20 year old son, our 16 and 10 year old daughters and we all came out amazed. It was worth the cost.

The staff we met were all wonderful and friendly. Our kids loved seeing the airplanes on the flight deck and touring the boat. Be prepared (as we were) that this is a working ship and therefore not easy to tour with small children. Lots of steps and metal (obviously) so as long as you know ahead of time to stay on the main areas such as the mess deck and the flight deck, you will have fun. If you venture onto the other levels you may be a bit stressed constantly making sure your kid doesn’t fall down the many steep sets of stairs, hit their heads, or trip since the walkways have many obstacles to step over. Our daughter loved the flight simulator. It was a fun day for all!

We had the pleasure to take a hard hat tour of the USS Lexington this past weekend. It was a very nice tour and we had a great time! It is well-worth the $50/ticket cost as the tour was nearly 4 hours and took you through all aspects of the vessel, many floors down! We were lucky to have Joe as our tour guide, who served time on a naval aircraft carrier and was a fountain of knowledge for all aspects of how a naval aircraft carrier ran. In addition, one of the tour guests was also a veteran- one who previously worked on a flight deck. There were four guests in the tour total, so there was a lot of individual attention and well-provided context. We really enjoyed ourselves!

Some tips: eat a hearty meal before the tour, wear comfortable tennis shoes, and drink a lot of water. Bottles of water are provided during the tour, but it can get very hot in some rooms (especially in June!). We were not aware of how long the tour was, but it was definitely worth it!
