The Parador de Zafra is easy to find and has a number of car-park spaces in front of the building. For only a few euros you can obtain a day-ticket at the front-desk. The Parador is an impressive fortress in the city-centre, well maintained with many interesting details. You are free to look around and even walk the tower corridor, something we really enjoyed. The rooms, breakfast and services are excellent and staff is more than happy, despite the language-barrier, to answer all your questions. Once again it appeared to us that the staff of the Parador is key to the success of our stay. Compliments to the bar-keeper (who also serves breakfast in the restaurant) and the lady at the front-desk, what a great job they do.
It was a pity that there was no WiFi on the 3rd floor. We wanted to join the guided tour but at the start it appeared only in Spanish, quite disappointing.

This was our second visit to this parador, set in an imposing alcazar with beautiful courtyard and the excitement of castle walls to explore.

We had booked a suite and this gave us an enormous set of rooms in the old castle overlooking the square. Comfortable enough, but not very stylish and, perhaps not surprising given the age and nature of the property and the heavy rain of the previous few weeks, smelling of damp.

Our stay was badly timed. The main square of the courtyard was out of bounds for all but the final evening, because it was being washed with pressure hoses over several days. This meant that there was nowhere nice to sit and have a drink, except in the cool/cold shade of the arcade. The stay was doubly badly timed because a packed coachload of tourists on a whistle-stop tour of Spain were booked in for the second night we were there. They were given the newly opened courtyard in which to enjoy drinks (not an option offered to the rest of us guests) and breakfast in the morning they were there was absolute chaos. Not enough seating for everyone, we had two of their party, unable to speak English or Spanish, sitting at our table (it seemed unfriendly not to let them when they gestured to the two spare seats). The choice of food was much more limited than we experienced at other paradors on this trip and much poorer quality - less fresh food and not nearly enough of it for all the guests.

I'm afraid bar service was also not very good. Not friendly, slow and the staff seemed reluctant o leave the bar to bring drinks to us in the arcade.

We came here because we had loved our stay here 12 years earlier. This time the visit was not a good one and we probably won't return.

Very imposing castle and courtyard inside hotel. Enjoyed the guided tour round the castle to the tower on this 90th birthday of Paradors.
Impressive large room and bathroom. Food adequate rather than good. Lamb casserole was disappointing but a lovely dining room with good service

We spent an excellent two days here. The guided tour of the parador was excellent. This is something the parador itself organises at weekends for free. We thoroughly enjoyed it. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Easier to find if you have GPS!
