Overall the DB San Antonio is an absolutely superb hotel with so many positives and it made our holiday amazing from start to finish. Definitely recommend this hotel!!
Below is a summary of each aspect of the hotel and our experience and opinions of them.

RESTAURANTS / FOOD
During our visit, 4 or the restaurants were open - the DBistro, Tagine (Indian Moroccan), Yushan (Chinese) and Guéliz (main) and we visited all of them. They were all very clean and the staff were friendly and attentive. You have to book the speciality restaurants on screens around the hotel and they get booked up quickly so best to do this as soon as you arrive!!
The Bistro was fantastic, the food was so tasty, good quality and huge portions; we couldn’t finish even though it was delicious; it was the best meal of the holiday!!
The Chinese and Indian buffet was also very nice, good variety of foods, hot and nice atmosphere.
The main restaurant was also very good with a good variety of lots of different, tasty foods which was all replenished constantly by the chefs meaning it was always hot.
On Sunday at lunch the main restaurant opened to the public which made it a lot busier but staff still coped very well and food still replenished constantly. There was even more delicious different foods available and a huge array of puddings which were incredible.

BARS / DRINKS
There are a few different bars open at different parts of the day including the pool bar and cafe for daytime, the Kosy bar at night and the Sky bar all day.
The Sky Bar on the top of the hotel is a lovely place to have a few drinks with fantastic views and good atmosphere.
In all bars there was a great array of different cocktails all part of all inclusive rather than just 2 or 3 to choose from. There was also a lot of other drinks to choose from including gin, vodka, brandy, rum, Malibu, prosecco, wine and more!! They were all local but still really nice and tasty!! Stella was also on tap which was lovely but we were surprised a local beer wasn’t as well.

ENTERTAINMENT
The evening entertainment was simply amazing!! The singers and dancers were outstanding, so professional, well rehearsed and the costumes were incredible! The best show during our stay was the Divas and Legends which is a must see!! One night there was a quiz by the animation team which was also really enjoyable and a good laugh!
During the day there was aqua gym which was good fun. However, overall in the daytime there was not much entertainment such as Volly Ball or Water Polo which suited us personally but we know some people enjoy games and entertainment in the day but we didn’t experience any.

ROOM
When we first walked in we were blown away. Very spacious, modern with lots of storage and hanging space. There was a kettle, fridge, safe included and plenty of plug sockets dotted all around the room. The bathroom was also very big, with a good shower and storage space. Everywhere was lovely and clean. Our balcony was also very big with a fantastic view overlooking the pool and sea. We also couldn’t hear any noise. The only slight negative was that the air conditioning wasn’t very powerful so in the height of summer it might not be enough and the room could get very warm and stuffy. There are two ceiling fans in the room but stronger air con might be preferred.

STAFF
From maids to bar staff to waiters and management, all members of staff were extremely friendly, polite, smiley and helpful. We had a few requests such as another cup and pillows which were all met and nothing seemed too much trouble.
The staff in the restaurant were also lovely and efficient in clearing up plates and tables. There was quick service at the bars especially the Kosy bar in the evening. The animation team were also very friendly and chatty but not too pushy.

POOL AREA
There are 4 pools downstairs and an infinity pool on the roof top. At the main pool area there was a jacuzzi, a bigger pool for swimming, a kids pool with a pirate ship and the main pool which had steps gradually going into it. The infinity pool has the most amazing views overlooking the main pool area and then the sea beyond that. It’s also very relaxed up there (it’s 16+). In the main pool area there were not many sun shades. There were lots of sun beds stacked up so we imagined that in the summer it may feel quite cramped as the area around the pool is not that big. Also, there is a lot of fully shaded areas around the pool and most of it was still in the shade by the end of the morning.

SURROUNDING AREA
There are some nice gift shops right outside the hotel and supermarkets close by. The bus station is only a short walk away too. It’s a lovely walk up to the square along the sea front which leads you to more shops and eateries and the walk the other way into Qwora is also very pleasant. However, the area behind the hotel isn’t as nice and looks a bit run down.

VALETTA
We had one day in Valetta; we travelled there by shuttle bus which we booked via the hotel reception rather than taking the bus or coach to the city. The shuttle bus was €6 each way per person but was very quick, reliable and dropped us off right in the centre of Valetta.
The city itself is very historic and we took the mini train to see all the historical sights which we found really good as some of the sights were a little further out and we might not have walked to them. The gardens and wall looking across to the 3 cities was really beautiful and there are some lovely shopping areas and eateries around the city.

FOOTNOTE TO MANAGEMENT
One thing we noticed during our stay was when it rained we were unsure on where to go? The pool bar was closed so where do guests get drinks from in the day? Also, it might have been nice if the animation team could put some impromptu entertainment to keep guests entertained rather than us all going back to the rooms.

We have recently returned from a week’s break, our first time to Malta. The highlight for me was the rooftop bar – I’ve visited a few, and this is definitely one of the best. The views and sunsets are stunning and the bar staff GC, John and Milan all provided excellent service. The rooftop also has an infinity pool which is stunning – definitely worth a visit (over 16’s only). There are also a couple of restaurants on the top floor (seasonal). As part of the All Inclusive we could book into the 5 different restaurants which we did on arrival and managed to get tables in all during the week. The outstanding one is Taza on the rooftop (supplement), closely followed by the Maltese one Q-Zins. The Chinese,& Asian (Yushan) and the Indian/Moroccan (Tagine) both buffets, we did not like the food at all and were really disappointed. The main buffet provided a good selection of meals during the day, especially the breakfast. The house wine is pretty good, especially the Rose. You can get coffee/cake in the ground floor coffee shop (Cafe Maroc) but this also serves alcohol, so a good alternative if the rooftop is too windy! We did visit the Kozy Bar once (where the entertainment) is but it was not for us!
The main pool does get crowded and the water was a bit on the cool side so we only spent a brief time there. The Beach over the road is more like grit but the sea was very clear and we did manage to swim in it. For beaches you need to head to Melliah Beach and Golden Sands. Both are easily accessible by bus. The hotel is located next to Buggiba Bus Station which is a huge advantage as you can get a seat – the bus is normally full after a couple of stops. We purchased a weekly travel card 21 Euros each and we could hop on or off as many we liked. It really is a great way to see the island and the map they give out at the bus station gives you the bus numbers for the various routes.
Places to visit; Valetta, Mdina, St Julian and Silema, plus also buses to the beaches mentioned above.
Unfortunately the weather was very windy for a couple of days and the seas extremely rough so all of the boat trips were suspended and unfortunately we never got to Gozo or Comino. Another excuse to return!
I would definitely recommend this hotel – the rooms and hotel were very clean and all the staff very friendly. The higher rooms have the best views, we were on the 9th. The beds were a bit too hard for us but maybe that’s just personal preference, and I was disappointed with the lack of wardrobe space. An open rail above some drawers did not suffice for my dresses etc! The hotel is in a very good location, near St Pauls Bay with lots of bars/restaurants and a good base to explore the island.

Room Tip: High floor for best views

There are so many great points about this hotel it us difficult to know where to begin. Firstly the reason we booked this hotel was the reviews about allergies as our son has multiple food allergies and we needed somewhere that would be able to cater for his needs. The hotel were amazing and were able to show him safe foods and on a number of occasions cooked him his own food. Food was amazing with a great deal of choice. Sunday was the busiest day but wow the desserts were incredible and food was plentiful.
Staff were very friendly and all said hello. Staff at the reception were helpful. The room was larger than expected and suited our family of 4 nicely - it was bright and clean and no issues with the air con. One thing to note is that the air con only works whilst you are in the room.
The hotel is large with a number of pools including an indoor pool. All were quiet during our stay. The indoor pool was the warmest but again not busy. Our boys enjoyed the evening entertainment especially circus night. Overall we have loved our visit to the San Antonio and as all inclusives go you can't get much better.
