Firstly, if you are thinking of staying overnight in Trani just stay! This is a quiet sleepy town by day and the local metropolis by night. The town lights up in the early evening and with the help of a many great restaurants and gelato stops, hundreds of tourists and locals mill around into the wee hours. My guess is that after one night you'll wish you had booked a few more.
Anyway, San Paulo Convento sits right on the harbour front directly across the harbour from the cathedral. The street facing rooms would have a superb view of the harbour town. Our room however, looked into the quadrant keeping it cool and quiet. This is an old convent renovated some years ago and would perhaps benefit from a little modernisation such as hard floors rather than carpet. That aside, housekeeping here is second to none and the staff are very friendly. The superb buffet breakfast comprises of a vast array of cereals, meats, fruit, yogurts, breads, juices and cakes. Whilst cake should never be on anyone's breakfast menu you'll find San Paulo cakes will tempt you every morning with no regrets!
