Viking Villa is a wonderful house on the outskirts of Fludir, a small town nestled within the Golden Circle. It is also in easy reach of the capital Reykjavik. The house has brilliant facilities, with a really well equipped kitchen, and even a fitted radio in the waterfall style shower! The garden has gorgeous views, with hills up close and glaciers in the distance. There are also chickens outside (you can eat the eggs you collect), and a trampoline in the summer. The owners, Magnus and Inga, are lovely, and incredibly helpful and a font of knowledge about places to visit, local foods to try etc. You can also hire a car from them for your stay, at rates much cheaper than from the airport car hire companies. We would definitely recommend the Viking Villa as a great place for families to stay.
Viking Villa is one of the nicest holiday homes we have had the pleasure of staying in. It is spacious with plenty of seating areas. A well equipped kitchen, comfy beds and lovely furnishings with amazing panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and countryside. Located just over an hours drive from Reykjavik you are centrally located to enjoy the sights of the Golden Circle. If you visit in winter and the conditions are right, you may see the Northern Lights, which we enjoyed from the amazing viewing tower which has its own fridge! Outside there is lots of space for children to burn off energy and there are chickens onsite which supply lovely eggs for breakfast. Maggnus and Inga are excellent hosts, informative, welcoming and quick to respond to emails prior to travel.
Our second trip to Iceland and the Viking Villa was a fantastic treat.
Inga and Maggnus are superb hosts and we received a warm welcome and great hospitality from them - Their advice was as ever excellent, helping us get the best out of our break.
We toured the Golden Circle again and ventured west into Rekjavik, enjoying the culture and entertainment on offer, and had a great day at the Blue Lagoon. The weather was a stunning mix giving us about a seasons worth in a few days, and as ever the spectacular seclusion of the villa gave us the opportunity to rest and relax despite being a short drive from everything you could want to visit.
We highly recommend it!
We were met by Magnus who made us very welcome and explained everything about the villa and the surrounding area. The views in every direction were amazing with the villa situated in a lovely unpopulated area. The village of Fludir is only a few minutes car drive away if you want supplies from the shop or to have a meal in the Hotel (which was very nice) or in the restaurant behind the shop (Also very nice). We all loved collecting eggs from the hens in the morning. If you want to do something a bit different I would recommend calling Joi (A local Guide, Magnus will give you details when you arrive) who has a large 4x4 and offers tailor made tips where ever you want to go at half the price of any of the other online 4x4 tours.
We visited one of the glaciers which was a highlight of the holiday.
We were very lucky to see the Northern lights for 3 nights, which were amazing.
Would recommend this villa to anyone and we will certainly be going back at some point in the future.
