The Glacier Lodge is one of a small group of similar cottages, each privately owned, located near the end of the Snaefellsness peninsula. It is immaculately maintained. We loved the living room with 2 sofas and the large dining room table where we could all gather to talk, edit our photos, read. The kitchen was well stocked with new pots and dishes. We could only stay one night, but It would have been easy to stay here long term. I will remember this for next time.
If you are looking for a quiet, remote and beautiful location for your stay in Iceland, the Glacier Lodge is a good choice. The lodge is one of several properties placed quite close together in a defined area, close to the sea in one direction and with the glacier in view in the other. This is not a single property on its own, so in high season expect neighbours! Construction of a couple of neighbouring properties was still ongoing during our stay. Not very pretty, but was quiet and did not detract from the overall experience.
We stayed for two nights in very windy weather at the end of April. This early in the season the other properties did not seem to be occupied. The Lodge is very well built and study, and was able to take the strong gusts very well.
Interior is quite new, nicely decorated and very well maintained. Kitchen is especially well equipped. Linen was very clean and good quality.
Note that the property has no WiFi or TV: we considered this positive, as you're here for the landscape anyway, right?
There are no on-site staff: key is obtained from a small security box near the front door. Code for the key was provided by email, as was useful information about the surrounding area. Checking in/out of the property was really simple. Contact information for a local caretaker was provided in case of difficulties.
The surrounding area is breathtakingly beautiful, with magnificent basalt coastline and stunning views of the mountains that run the length of the peninsula. You can hike direct from the lodge, and this is well worth doing!
The property is rather pricey, but Iceland is expensive!
