We did a half-day trip with Rust's to see bears in Lake Clarke National Park. We were collected from our hotel and taken to the airport. We then flew from Anchorage to Chinitna Bay. It was a sunny day and the scenery from the plane was spectacular, although there was heavy fog over the bay. Our pilot Mark was obviously very experienced, and managed to land us on the beach through a gap in the fog. We were picked up in a bus and taken to the Alaska Bear Mountain Lodge where we were shown a video about bears and were prepared for the trip. Back in the bus, our guide drove us to the first of a number of areas where we could expect to see bears. The first stop was to see a bear sunning itself on a ledge about ten metres from us. We spent about half an hour at the second location were about six brown bears, including a mother and cub who did a circuit around us about twenty metres away. At the third location, we walked about a hundred metres to a viewing area where there were another five bears feeding in the grasslands. After about half an hour here we returned to the bus and were flown back to Anchorage and returned to our hotel. It was a fantastic day of sightseeing and we highly recommend it.

In planning our trip to Alaska we wanted to see brown bears and do a small plane sightseeing of remote areas. This trip delivered on both accounts. We went on a trip to Chinitna Bay and had 1.5 hour flights in each direction. Our pilot was extremely competent, and gave us valuable commentary that added to our understanding of the terrain and the Alaskan lifestyle. He pointed out a moose and found beluga whales that we could see on our flights. We had 3 hours with the bears, seeing 20 at one spot as close as 20 feet away as two young males who were wrestling each other and chasing up the beach passed by our group with little concern for us. Our guide in bear country had grown up in the area and was knowledgeable and respectful about the bears. We always felt safe. This is an expensive trip, but it was definitely of the once in a lifetime bucket list variety with no disappointments!

Would highly recommend. They were able to accommodate us with a last minute reservation. Picked us up at our hotel in Anchorage & dropped us back after our flight. Office staff very friendly and courteous. Mark our pilot was awesome! Took us close to mountains & glaciers & avoided rough weather as much as possible. Definitely a well-run business.
