Owner description: Voted the Best of West Hawaii since 2000 , the Island Breeze Lu'au and is located on the shores of Kamakahonu Bay and the historic grounds of the Courtyard Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel. An evening filled with delicious food and authentic Island entertainment. Highlights include the re-enactment of the arrival of Kamehameha I aboard an outrigger canoe, the unearthing of the imu (underground oven), preliminary arts and crafts where you have a chance to meet the performers, a 22-dish buffet, an open bar and the finale of the Siva Afi - spectacular Samoan Fireknife dance.

I had read the good reviews on Trip Advisor and thought we were making a good choice, but the moment we arrived, I thought, “Uh no...”. First, before you even walk outside to where the luau is, they had you wait in line inside to take a cheesy picture in front of a bland, blue backdrop. I get they are trying to make money off of more than the tickets, but if you are going to do photographs like these, they should be done outside, behind a Hawaiian background with perhaps a luau dancer or two. Just make it a little more interesting than a plain blue backdrop.
They tried some pre-dinner activities (like hula lessons) that were done away from where you sat down for dinner and the show. It was awkward and inconvenient to have to get up again (after already getting up to get a drink) just to go to the area where these activities were. Instead, they should have done them on stage where everyone could see them.
The food was not great at all. It looked like some foods were bought pre-made or canned. And the desserts were really blah.
And the DJ (or the guy leading us through the show) was just so cheesy. It all just felt so dumbed-down, like I was watching a lame cruise show.
The only thing this luau really had going for it was the dancers. They were pretty good.
But again, I don’t understand the positive reviews. If wanting a luau, look elsewhere.

Mahalo for your feedback, we want to apologize for any disappointment you experienced at the luʻau. Our goal is that each person who attends the luʻau leaves with very special memories and feels like part of our ʻohana (family). It seems like we were not able to meet your expectations during your visit.
Just to give you a little understanding - it is our hope that taking photos inside will provide a more comfortable air conditioned setting as people are dressed up for the evening and late afternoon can be very warm outside until the sun starts to go down.
The intention of our activities in a lawn area is so that guests have the opportunity to interact with our dancers and "talk story" before the show. Unfortunately the seating area and stage donʻt allow for very much one-on-one interaction.
We apologize you were disappointed with the food and parts of the show. We will definitely pass on your feedback to our culinary and production teams so they can use it to make improvements for the future.

This luau was quite fun. The dancers were all really good and they had a variety of dances which was nice. They took you through the different islands of Polynesia and showed you the differences between the styles. The food was okay, not the best but still tasty and the free alcohol helped make it better! They do have some little activities to do beforehand which we did not participate in but the show was great, the emcee was a good singer and interesting. It was a bit cheesy in parts but overall I had a lot of fun here.

First time to Hawaii and wanted to see a Luau. Read the previous reviews and was not disappointed. History, food and entertainment were great. A must see when visiting Kona!

My good friend from New Zealand had never been to a luau before and I booked us in to this luau. It was absolutely stunning, culturally traditional, fabulous food, a top class show, beautifully choreographed and great musicians . We had such a fun evening and felt we really got more than we paid for in hawaiian culture and hospitality. Don’t miss an Island Breeze Luau!

The Luau was very nice. Easy to park at the Marriott and when we picked up our tickets in the lobby they validated our ticket so it was only $5. We were early and they were having a craft show in the lobby so we shopped both at the craft show and in the lobby shops. We finally went out and got in line. The line moved quickly. We had our shell lei greeting and they showed us to a table. After we were seated we went out and got complementary mai tais (more like rum punch). They had hula lessons, fake tatoos, and some other activities on the grounds too. They announced the removal of the pig from the imu and we went to watch. After we were seated they had the king and court procession and then some entertainment. There had been a Polynesian dance competition at the Marriott and some groups were still around. They had two of the children’s groups perform which was nice. Then they had their regular Polynesian show while we ate. After the New Zealand group performed a visiting group from New Zealand in the audience did a Haka too so that was pretty cool! The food was basic Luau food but well prepared and good. We would recommend this Luau when visiting the Big Island. Loved the location. Our group was age 26-63 and all had a really nice time.
