HiCo is one of our favorite stops every time we visit the Big Island. We usually stop right after our flight and pick up a bag of ground beans for the hotel during the week. We haven't tried one we didn't like... the Ka'U was our favorite of the two this week. The Ube latte is always a favorite, too. Be sure to check out their monthly specials and give them a try - we have not found one we didn't like. The clientele is eclectic and staff is great! The venue is always clean and staff is hustling. Food always looks delicious!
We just HAPPENED upon this place thanks to their sign that advertised an Ube Latte. We had to wait 45 minutes for our table at Umeke's, so it was worth it! It was so good and we LOVED the vibe of the place that we went back later on in the week! The first time we went there they had a DJ. Their menu includes superfood coffees, classic espresso drinks, cold brews, teas, and cocktails. Their food menu has musubi (spam, vegan and crab),
WHAT WE ORDERED/RECOMMEND: Ube Latte and Mermaid’s Milk (coconut rum, Bailey’s, Mac nut syrup and salted caramel), avocado toast and paninis
WHAT WE DIDN’T GET TO ORDER: Macnut Toffee Latte, Mango Basil Refresher and Matcha
MENU ITEMS INCLUDE: Superfood Lattes, Kombucha, Teas, Cocktails, Avo Toast, Musubis (spicy crab, loaded and vegan), Paninis (turkey cheese, turkey pesto, vegan and more)
As with many things in Hawaii, the shop is small with maybe 5-6 tables inside and 6 tables or so outside. Restrooms are located outside of the shop in between the chicken place and Umeke’s.
Their second location is open too in Kealakekua on Hawai'i Belt Road!
Everything here is 5 stars. Aesthetics, drinks, food and service. My friends and I ordered the banana donut, Ube lattes, loaded musubis, Ube coconut donuts. Wow everything was delicious. A must go if you love coffee. This place was packed when I went early in the morning. Noise level it gets load as the tables start to fill up. If you’re looking for a quiet place HiCO may not be it. Parking is easy to find with street and parking in the back. Theres a nice variety of snacks and drinks to choose from. Prices are a bit high.
Visited the Big Island this summer and HiCo was near the top of our list of places to visit. Super bougie in the best of ways, the vibe was modern and eats tummy. During our 10-day stay, we visited far too many times, if that is possible. The staff was always friendly, the ube lattes were consistent (And no, we tried no other drinks), and the food was excellent.
Get there early if you want a seat as both outdoor and indoor seating was often full. I ended up working there a bit as well and the wifi is solid.
GENERAL NOTE TO DEMANDING TOURISTS: If you are going to be impatient, please go to the beach until you can breathe a bit or go somewhere less local. Do us all a favor, and keep the snide comments and complaints to yourself 'cause locals have enough crappy environmental and cultural tourist impact to deal with as it is. Staff at so many places are overworked and struggling, so the last thing they need are ugly tourists being, well, ugly.
