Owner description: Jewel Cave National Monument is home to one of the longest caves in the world. Offering an assortment of cave formations and recreational opportunities, many visitors are truly amazed by this underground wilderness. Most impressive is the fact that exploration and discovery continue to take place at this significant natural resource. As part of the National Park Service, the Monument offers four different types of cave experiences: Scenic Tour (1 hour and 20 minutes), Discovery Talk (20 minutes) Historic Lantern Tour (1 hour and 45 minutes), and Wild Caving Tour (3 to 4 hours). NOTE: Reservations are available up to 90 days in advance and can be made online or through the Call Center of Black Hills Central Reservations. Tickets can also be purchased at the Monument on a first come first served basis. Please be advised that during the late spring, summer, and fall seasons, tour times often sell out by late morning.

This is a large cave with high ceilings, stairs with good grips. We had a great time on this tour! Be sure to reserve in advance!

It was ok. My family enjoyed it. I get a little bored in caves. Very cool cave. The kids loved the national park book we bought there and then they get stamps at every national park or monument you stop at. That was worth it.

Thank you for the review and especially for sharing the park store purchase ... many visitors LOVE the NPS passport program. We are confident that your kids will want to visit every national park to collect the stamps. So, get prepared for some incredible adventures.

Best wishes for the remainder of the summer season. Keep exploring America's treasured resources.

This is a well organized experience. The visitor center has a nice display area for getting acquainted with the size, scope and discovery of the cave system. The ranger led tour [only option] can be reserved ahead of time, it fills fast. Wear warm clothing as it is a constant 50 deg. It is a reasonably easy tour but with lots of stairs down then up then down, etc. to 300' below. Tour is approx. 3/10 mile and ends with elevator back to surface. The ranger really knew caves as he was a cave explorer on his personal time. The tour was informative with lots of tiny stalactites & mites, and other features. It is a little remote from Custer but not bad and is worth a try.

The cave was fascinating, though we only took the 20 minute intro your into the entry platform of the cave. The ranger that hosted the tumor was knowledgeable and pleasant. The facilities were clean and the displays adequate.

Thank you for the online review through TripAdvisor. We always appreciate the feedback from park visitors, and it appears that you enjoyed the experience. We do hope you can come back someday to take the (longer) Scenic Tour or possibly the Historic Lantern Tour. If you are really adventurous, you may even want to consider the Wild Caving Tour.

Whatever the case, we hope you enjoyed the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. Keep exploring the National Park Service!
