This road takes you round the park to take a look at the wild life around. You should be patient and watchful to see any animals. This road takes you miles and miles around branching out to lakes needle points and hiking places. Sometimes you get to watch one or two bisons or here
of bisons. Sometimes we have to wait patiently for the herd of bisons to cross the very loop road which you are driving taking care not to hoot your car horn or try to get out of car to take a good look.

This is a pretty drive and the possibility of sighting bison is good. However, Wind Cave National Park and Hwy 87 had many more wildlife sightings for our family.

We did not see much wildlife at all, but maybe 2 in the afternoon is not the best time. I had heard others say they saw quite a bit in the mornings.

This was our first trip to South Dakota. The landscape, and especially the animals, on the Wildlife Loop Road were made to order. It's what you hope for when you visit here. It doesn't disappoint. Just be careful going around the corners because you never know what might be standing in the road.
