Located in an old federal bldg, the place was well planned with the insect displays first and the butterfly's at the end. Very cool if your into this.

We enjoyed our visit to the Audubon Butterfly & Insectarium. Lots of neat displays and interaction for the kids. They even serve gourmet insects in their cafe, and if you are brave enough to try any they give you a stamp that says, "I ate a bug." The butterfly garden was so cool. The butterfly fly all around and sometimes they land on people. We had a very good time.

I did not know what to expect from the insectarium as I am a little on the squeamish side when it comes to bugs! This place was great! I learned soooo much about insects and their role in the world. There is excellent signage throughout and you can eat bugs in the cafeteria if you want. There is a fun little 4D movie to experience and they had a station with volunteers that would let you hold some insects as you learned about them. You end in a room filled with beautiful butterflies. You cannot touch them, but they did land on some lucky visitors.

You do have to go through a security line to enter the insectarium as it's located in a federal building.

Thank Jennifer M

Very interesting way to spend an hour or two. Dispalays are all first rate as you might expect for anything connected with Audubon. The butterfly room was a blast, not the largest we have gone in but very nice. Its just fun to have butterflies landing on you. Point to remember the venue is located within a Federal Building and as such you wuill go through a security checkpoint, make sure you've left your pocket knife etc at home or hotel.

My family and I went to visit to get some time out of the heat of NOLA. Even though it is a small area, it is packed with lots of engaging and interesting exhibits for adults and kids that like to learn something new. For the brave foodie, they have samples of edible bugs to try and knowledgeable staff that can explain all there is to know about the subject. They also have a rather entertaining video that is fun for all ages. A definite must see for families with children and even adults if museums, science, and bugs interest you.
