The hotel itself is nice, about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Kampot. We had a spacious room which was clean and well presented and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice and very filling.

The reason I haven't rated the stay more highly is because of the following issues. The sound insulation didn't really exist. There was very loud music playing from some sort of street market near the hotel from afternoon until 10pm 3 out of the 4 nights we stayed which almost drove me crazy. This obviously is not the fault of the hotel but if the sound insulation was improved this could help a lot. For example there was a big gap between the door and doorframe which meant a direct connection from outside to inside. The other main issue was there were often mosquitos in our room even though we tried to open and close the door really quickly. Mosquito nets over the beds would have been nice.

If the above issues were addressed I would consider staying again.

Makk hotel has Jimmy who is most welcoming and helpful, he will make sure your stay in Kampot will run flawlessly. the hotel is conveniently located at the riverside, not far away from the center, but if the walk along the river does not seduce you, you can always use the hotel's own Tuktuk to get to the venue you want to go in town. Definitely a good catch for your money.

When you like smaller hotels with a warm welcome and a personalized service, Makk hotel is a very good choice! From arrival we felt very welcome, the staff were super helpful with booking tours, trips & transfers. The rooms are very nice and the breakfast amazing!

The hotel is a modest and tastefully-furnished retreat from the bustle of town, situated just outside of the town centre but still very accessible and conveniently located by the riverside. I was very well taken care of by Jimmy the hotel manager and the other staff, who were always more than ready to help with any small request with a smile. They were attentive to all my needs without being intrusive, and I loved the little details like a different cute towel art everyday and flowers to freshen up the room.

The daily breakfast that is included is absolutely delicious. They do a great hearty American breakfast set and also have options like pancakes, muesli and fried noodles.

The only downside is that the hotel suffers from minor flooding (up to the ankles) after a heavy downpour, so guests on the ground floor like myself would have to wade through a little bit of water to get into the hotel, then into the room. However this is no problem at all if you're wearing slippers as the room itself is elevated and thus unaffected by the flooding.

I absolutely would come back to stay again, though preferably during the dry season!

Room tip: Book a room on the upper floor during the rainy season

There is much to love about this hotel! The staff speak excellent English and are happy to help you with what to do in Kampot. We wanted to go out La Plantation, didn't want to do the standard tour to caves along the way so the hotel happily arranged a tuk tuk to take us there and wait for US$15.

Our room opened straight off reception, but this was never a problem it was never noisy. And when we had breakfast just off reception we didn't have to worry about locking our door! Speaking of breakfast, there was a great choice for breakfast and refills of coffee weren't a problem.

But our lasting memory of this hotel is that for the 4 days we were there we came back each day to a different beautiful example of towel art on our bed.

One last comment would be please paint the bathroom it doesn't match the rest of the immaculate room!
