Yzerfontein is possibly one of the most beautiful little towns along the West Coast. It's crowning glory is most definitely The Gulls B&B!!! From the warm and welcoming presence of the Host and Hostess, Fanie and Colleen Bantjes to the picturesque gardens of The Gulls, this was possibly one of the best weekends away my family and I have had in a long time!
When it came to turning out the lights, The Gulls definitely won "hands down" with the sheer brilliance and pure self-indulgence their comfortable beds had to offer!! Early morning breakfast on the patio overlooking the beautiful, tranquil bird-song garden proved that The Gulls is not only just a B&B but an experience to treasure for a lifetime! Our memories of this beautiful home, amazing Host and Hostess and the abundance of stunning lanscapes make The Gulls an unforgettable experience. The Gulls is definitely a place to be shown-off and shared!

We were passing through and just needed a place to stay for the night. All the other places I tried were either full, away on holiday or way more expensive. From the moment Faan picked up the phone he was very helpful and provided me with all the information I required to secure my booking. We arrived later than we expected but they did not have any problem with this, helped us with our luggage and gave details where the nicest restaurants in Yzerfontein are located at. The room they gave was great! It is simply huge, has a really big bathroom and of course a view with sound of the ocean. Everything was clean and well kept that gave the room a very refreshing feeling after a hard day of travelling.

To be honest, I really was not expecting much since Yzerfontein is this teensy little town in the middle of nowhere, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Thank you Faan and Colleen for making our stay very pleasant and we will indeed be travelling there again one day! At the end, my only regret were that we only stayed for one night!

Room tip: There is only one room but it is well worth it!

I should have written this ages ago, so better late than never.

We toured the Garden Route in May 2005 and the last place we stayed before returning home was at Yzerfontein on the West Coast just North of Cape Town.

After a long and wonderfully hot, sunny, dusty, Karoo type drive of a day, (over from somewhere like Montagu) we came to Yzerfontein just before the sun was setting. I was at Beacon Island, Plettenberg Bay in the 70s and enjoyed many a sunset there and this one was as exceptional as the best of those.

Then we set about finding our accommodation and checked into another Yzerfontein property which had no heating, was sparten in its decoration, mediocre shower only en suite, proprietor was not the most welcoming and really had not a lot going for it, but at least we had a room!!

However, not happy with this situation we went for a "scout about" and come across The Gulls and Faanie and Colleen. What a WONDERFUL find. What an absolutely charming couple and frankly, just write here if you find any better accommodation in South Africa - and I know South African accommodation is excellent, but I defy you to find better - then consider the price and you have a true gem of a place.

So we apologised to our previous host and moved before anyone changed their minds!!

The accommodation at The Gulls is guaranteed (my guarantee) 5 star (that is English 5 star) Enormous fabulously decorated and exceedingly comfortably furnished rooms (ours had a wonderful view over the bay and just caught the sunset actually) where no expense has been spared - What an absolutely treat.

Breakfast was as good as the standard of the room and just nothing was too much trouble for Faanie or Colleen.

Highly recommended - The Gulls, Faanie and Collen and Yzerfontein.

Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.
