I am so glad I decided to stay here. The hosts were awesome and I had such an amazing experience! I will definitely be staying here again when I drive back home to NC. Thank you for such a unique experience and wonderful memories.

Doesn't matter what you say about this place, the owners don't care. They'll sugar coat any review to say it wasn't their fault. If you book with them and plans change or cancel, you will be out of luck and out of your money.

Room Tip: Nice hotels and camping not far away.

This person never actually stayed with us. They booked with us in December 2017 for a reservation in June 2018. One hour before check in they contacted us to tell us they had changed their plans and would not be checking in. Our cancellation policy is in all listing material and known prior to booking.

I was nervous because of the lack of running water and electricity but the nearest town is only a 10 min drive away. The tents, mud hut, and covered wagon were all so charming. We stayed in the covered wagon which is the smallest but it was so cozy and a really cool experience. They have Great Pyrenees dogs that Shepard their goats and sheep. They’re so cuddly and adorable!! The dogs will come greet you and play. They will beg for food like they’ve never seen food before, so if you’re afraid of big dogs, I would suggest not cooking food on the fire.

We learned of Shash Dine in Arizona Highways Magazine and decided to book 2 nights...We wanted one of the two small cabins but they were booked so we took one of two platform tents. The hogan was to big and the sheepherder wagons to small..All accomadations are very nicely furnished. Our tent was large, two platform double beds with comfortable mattresses and more then enough bedding. We borrowed two chairs from the fire pit and put them inside to make sitting more comfortable...The tent had solar powered lighting.
All accomadations are several hundred yards away from the owners home so you really feel "out on the prairie " and you are!...We could not have a fire in the pit due to high winds and grass fire danger. We hiked to the ridge and watched the sun set, beautiful...There is NO running/hot water and outdoor toilets....you bathe from buckets heated by the sun. the toilet facilities are clean and adequate.
Baya the owner is Navajo, her husband Paul is not,,,they have two of the cutest kids imaginable...we went to visit the animals and were adopted by the kids who wanted to play, talk etc...we had a wonderful time with them and Elvis the giant sheep dog...
Our first night was a little tough,,,did not anticipate how cold it gets..went from 90 to about 40,,,we neglected to close the vents in the tent and really got cold...In the morn I was ready to move to town but when the sun got up and heated everything up we adjusted and had a great second night..
By the time we left we really felt like we had a special experience and would do it again,,maybe in a cabin.
I would highly recommend staying at Shash Dine but know what it is and is not...

Reading the negative reviews of this place produces an internal anger. When booking here, understand this is an experience and a culturally incredible place to visit and stay. If you are expecting a normal tent and bed and wish to comment poorly on Shash Dine then the fault lies upon you for not investigating properly.

The location is incredible, a fire in the vast open fields, with puppies (land guards) coming to greet you. A whisky round the fire followed by a night in an original Hogan (Navajo house). Truly remarkable experience which I will never forget. Thanks for creating some remarkable memories for me.
