This unit of the NPS has been preserved very well and a great place to visit. The walking trail is easy even for people who have difficulty. Film gives a wonderful overview of the hist of the fort and also the Santa Fe Trail.

A must see to anyone who is interested in the Santa Fe Trail. It is a very well preserved and interesting fort. Many building you can go into and read about the history and
soldiers of that time. I most enjoyed the hospital and mess hall. And best of all this is free there is a picnic area before entering also.

Well preserved fort used for twenty years during the Santa Fe Trail days of transporting goods across the country. I have lived in Kansas most of my life and had never taken the opportunity to visit this fort. It was well worth the time and travel. Great displays showing how it was used and the rooms are set up to show you the living quarters during it's use. You will not be disappointed to take the time and visit this fort. There is no admission fee.

A little bit off the beaten path but well worth the trip. I great replica of a frontier fort. THE NPS ranger was very informative and they had a good small museum. A great selection of books and gifts in the museum store.

We saw this at its best on memmorial day when staff & volunteers act out their fort roles in period costume. But outside that, it is worth the 60-90min drive from Dodge City to see what is one of the best preserved forts in existence. Ranger-led guided tours are usually available.
