The grounds are lovely. The home is beautiful, although not as extravagant as you might expect. The Roosevelts were quite affluent, and had nothing to prove.

Very interesting place to visit with quality house tour and big museum, deceptively huge as there is an entire lower level not to be missed, especially if you want to see FDRs famous car. Allow time for Eleanor's cottage and FDR get-away nearby and included shuttle ride away in the off season.

Our tour guide, Shannon B., was very knowledgeable and engaging in bringing alive the history of this marvelous home. We appreciated that most of the furnishings and decor in the home are original.
It was fascinating to learn how FDR was able to move between the floors of the home by placing his wheelchair in the dumb waiter. It was also intriguing to see in FDR's bedroom the phone beside his bed that was a direct line to the White House.
Take the time to look at the beautiful view towards the Hudson when you exit the rear of the building at the end of the tour. It will help you appreciate why this site brought the Roosevelts so much comfort and relief.

We saw the Vanderbilt Mansion earlier in the day, and then proceeded to this home so by comparison it felt much smaller and more modest, which of course it is. But it is filled with treasures and was an extremely worthwhile visit. Our tour guide was not fabulous-kept trying to make jokes that were not all that funny but you feel obligated to laugh. And we were outside quite a bit which I was not prepared for-cold weather but left coats in car thinking we would be in a house. SO keep your coat with you on a cool day. But our guide was knowledable and my family and I learned a great deal about this President and his wife.

Excuse me if I'm a little confused, but I loved seeing everything at this National Park. I have a senior pass!! What an excellent thing to have. We went everywhere, so I can't remember which one had the most Roosevelt history. I think it was the Delano Roosevelt Home. I have great photos, but they are personal ones. I am not sure I would take small children, but if they are school age, all the history is wonderful.
