We were driving (6/27) from Martinsburg to Hershey PA, and stopped here for lunch. It was raining hard, and although we had rain jackets, we entered the restaurant dripping wet. We went downstairs, and immediately felt the air conditioning going full blast. It was freezing. I asked if there was a warmer area, and was told that the entire restaurant is cooled.

Well, we figured that maybe it would be okay, once we sat down. We got a lovely booth, and sat down. Air conditioning vents seemed to be all over, and cold air was blowing on my legs. I looked around, and everybody was sitting there with their jackets on, hunched over, trying to keep warm. What kind of comfy and cozy atmosphere is that for a cool rainy day?

We got up and left. If they don’t care about the comfort of their customers, we don’t care about them.

My friend and I enjoyed the drinks, the appetizer, and the soup! It was a wonderful experience with a great staff and wonderful ambiance!

We visited the Dobbin House Tavern upon recommendation from our hotel. The staff was dressed in time period attire, and the dining room was in the underground tavern. Pretty cool place with lots of history. If you want history, it’s perfect. If you want a really good meal and a nice size portion, visit somewhere else. The food was just ok and overpriced for what you got.

The story and charm of the restaurant is interesting in and of itself. The hostess was very friendly and our server Lisa was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. For us, it was the food that was lacking. My wife had chicken which had, among other things, tomatoes and sauce as well as brown gravy. Not two things typically seen together in a dish, one or the other. I had the prime rib and I can say mine definitely was not a $26 prime rib. It was cooked correct, but it was lacking in flavor and it was very tough. We wanted so much for this place to be a winner, but for us the charm of the house was better than the food.

We had dinner in the Alexander Dobbin dinning rooms, the atmosphere is special and is worth the visit just for the ambiance. The wait staff dressed in period clothing are super friendly and make you feel welcome and appreciated. The special was Filet with Crab stuffed Shrimp, the Crab was exquisite however the filet which had the pink center and seemed to be cooked as ordered was surprisingly dry. One of our party ordered the prime rib and found it to be excellent. Seems a bit overpriced.
