Owner description: The Barnes Foundation houses one of the finest collections of nineteenth- and twentieth-century French painting in the world. An extraordinary number of masterpieces by Renoir, Cezanne and Matisse provide a depth of work by these artists that is unavailable elsewhere. Established as an educational institution, the Barnes carries out its mission teaching classes in its galleries and Arboretum.

Nice museum, big collection of begin 1900 arts.
A lot of Matisse Cezanne Picasso...
In our day was free I don’t know if it is always like that.
All the paintings are mixed in the rooms , there is no an order by date or artist but this is the order that Barnes decided.
Also a lot of furniture and objects... more a private house than a museum!
Absolutely to visit.

I have a friend who visits The Barnes Foundation quite regularly. She invited me to visit with her, and we had a wonderful time wandering through all the rooms and learning about the impressionist paintings and sculptures and their artists.

The collection is vast, and If I lived closer I too would visit regularly. If you love art, do go and plan to stay several hours.

Great collection in a great building! We got tickets for timed entry. Very convenient. Impressive Renoir collection. Some very nice Seurat’s and all the Impressionist brand names.

And you can take pictures! No flash, but great lighting. Hinge collection was quirky, but interesting to see. Lot of complex history for the lawyers. Had a drink and a bite in the restaurant - good food and great service.

The Barnes is one of the greatest collections by a private owner of Impressionist masterpieces in the world. Staying true to Dr. Barnes will requirements, the art and associated furnishings are shown exactly as they were in their original home in Merion. I never tire is visiting the Barnes as often as possible.

If you enjoy art, creativity, and impressionism then look no further. As you can see from all reviews, this collection is impressive and outstanding. There is a cafe for snacks and fueling up as well as a gift shop with a nice selection of merchandise. We recommend this for families or a group outing.
