Gem on the Upper West Side

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 31 Jul 2024
The Lucerne is a place I stay frequently in a neighborhood I used to live in. It's proximity to the park, the 1-train subway line on the same block, and the friendly staff round out the list of things that made a difference to me as a business traveler.

Although the basic room isn't big (it's New York after all) every room is clean, reasonably priced, and the location is tough to beat. Restaurant isn't open early for breakfast, but it is EXCELLENT. If weather permits in warm months sitting outside on Amsterdam is a great experience.

In the end, this is a great hotel. It's not a "resort" property with a million acres of water slides or the like. It is clean, reasonably priced, and in a fantastic neighborhood with the park and subways right there, plus drug and grocery stores in a few blocks for things you forgot or need in an extended stay.

Highly recommend if you want the neighborhood.

Couldn't ask for better location, for quietness, friendly staff, grocery stores nearby, subway only 1 block away, many restaurants and grocery stores nearby.. Rating is 5 out of 5.

I 100% recommend this place to stay if you are like us and didn't have any idea about where to stay in New York city when there for just a couple of days! The hospitality was just brilliant - nothing was too much hassle! Friendly, helpful, just the best!

A change from the big chain hotels. The Lucerne has an old world elegance, with larger rooms than the usual New York hotels (I’ve done a deep dive into room sizes at various Times Sq and Upper West side hotels).

Check in: the reception area was well staffed at 6pm (3 agents for about 5 families) and check in was smooth.

Room: A deluxe king on the 2nd floor, with a writing desk and entry table. Clean, neutral smell (much appreciated), bed on the firm side.

Wifi: good connection (access code is on the back of key holder.

TV: had YouTube etc but no Netflix or Prime at first glance.

Minibar: n/a

Ice dispenser with vending machines (soda, snacks) easily accessible on the same floor.

Water bottle in room was not complimentary, an expensive $6.75

Food options: Sushi, bagels, Tacombi (Mexican), Tessa (new American), Jing Fong (Chinese) all within a block. The hotel restaurant, Nice Matin (French) which has a few sidewalk cafe type tables.

Uber access easy, street front. Subway a block away.
