Lower Manhattan has everything from peaceful parks to excitement galore. You can fill a weeklong trip in Lower Manhattan without going uptown at all. Of course, that would be a shame.

Endless opportunities abound in Lower Manhattan for sightseeing, historical tours, great dining, shopping, memorable photographs and happily sometimes, fewer and more manageable crowds. It's a safe area and is worth concentrating on for off the beaten path gems like The Museum at Eldridge Street or the Merchant's House Museum as well as the stunning Woolworth Building.

Small performance spaces as well as cool art galleries are tucked into these neighborhoods and for 2nd and 3rd time visitors its a great place to base yourself to see the spots where the American Dream began and enjoy the variety and confluence of so many different cultures.

Get a Frommer's Easy Guide NYC 2018. There is a lower Manhattan do-it-yourself walking tour in the guide. We started on the Staten Island ferry for a view of Lady Liberty. Then, visited the Elizabeth Seton Chapel across the street. Then, we used the guide book for a self-tour. We went inside the American Indian museum, Federal Hall, and Trinity Church. We had a great time checking out all the sites on the history walk. It was a full day of fun for FREE (excluding the cost for the guide book). I saw things that I never would have otherwise. Learned a lot. If you like walking and history - do this!

Walk around and enjoy the area. Plenty of places to look at, stop for snacks or food.
Roam everywhere to see what you can find
