The story is that the Rubins had a Tibetan painting in their home, felt it had a special energy and went from non-believers into believers. The rest is history. The space is amazing and the collection one of the finest of its kind in the area of Himalayan Buddhism.

We spent quite a bit of time here, touring this brilliant museum. The staff were most helpful. Unique art forms, historical pieces hard to find elsewhere. Will visit again to be sure :)

This museum specializes in Himalayan art. There are excellent descriptions of the art: its purpose and history, along with suggestions on how to view it. I found these most helpful. The museum exudes peacefulness.

What a great find! This museum is very well designed making the visual impact of the art apparent. We arrived early Saturday morning and essentially had the museum to ourselves! The descriptions of the art provide enough detail that the visitor understand the subtly of the regions and pieces. I felt I learned something and well as enjoyed the experience - that says a lot about the thoughtfulness of the curators.

Really impressed with the Rubin Museum and it was definitely worth the travel and the entrance fee. In my opinion it's a must visit for anyone with an interest in the region's aesthetic. The Nepalese hollow casting there was absolutely fantastic.
