We must have gone at the right time because we seemed to be off the tourist track, definitely the only non Oriental people around us. The fish and vegetable stalls are beautifully arrayed and these New Yorkers actually smile back when I smiled first . This Chinatown has a whole different feel from San Francisco's but no less authentic.

Tons of great little shops and restaurants. One of the people in my group said she could see herself living in this charming neighborhood.

Fun area filled with restaurants and shops. It's so fun to walk around. There are a lot of traditional medical herbalists around China Town. Explore them as it's a lot of fun :).

Never having visited another Chinatown I have no way to say if this is a genuinely ethnic area but its still a very interesting place to walk around , In all of NYC this was the one area where we felt really like tourists as everybody spoke Chinese the signs were in mandarin and it did feel like a different part of the city.
Enjoyed seeing the competitive old women playing card games in Columbus park as well as the elderly folks exercising in the playpark.
There's lots of places to buy proper Chinese meal ingredients as we walked through the street markets where every food choice was out front and there's lots of places to eat , worth a trip to see another culture.
