Owner description: A trip to New York wouldn't be complete without a visit to the New-York Historical Society with its four centuries of history and art - plus the only Children's History Museum in the area. It hits the spot for anyone craving an offbeat (and often surprising) bite of the city's culture easily digested in an hour or two. Quirky, smart, immersive and across the street from beautiful Central Park, it offers a rich taste of the city. You know the city - now hear the stories. Witness New York's rise from remote outpost to city at the center of the world in our 18-minute panoramic film experience, New York Story, in surround-sound on a 75-foot screen. Then travel through time in visionary exhibitions and an entire floor of children's galleries that show why this city has always captivated hearts and minds. "We were absolutely blown away by the film which manages to convey more about New York and its history than one could imagine ever being crammed into 18 minutes." - CL, New York NY History will break free from the textbooks and jump into your life! Hungry for more? The New-York Historical Society is your neighborhood destination for food and drink, whether you're grabbing a breakfast bite and a delicious cup of coffee at Parliament Coffee & Espresso Bar, or you're looking to relax with a delectable lunch and dinner and a glass of wine at Storico. Then explore the NYHistory Store for unique New York City gifts and exhibition-related merchandise.

Much more than I was expecting. A world class museum with heaps of fascinating stuff and an impressive collection of artifacts explaining a well rounded view of the history of the city. Excellent 18 minute flim on NY history included with admission. Admission was relatively cheap (I paid $21.70) and it's in a beautiful part of Manhattan. Absolutely worth spending a few hours there

I lived in New York most of my life and never went here. Big mistake. The NY Historical Society Museum is a gem. The Eloise (of the Plaza fame) and Editta Sherman (who knew you could live in Carnegie Hall?) exhibits were terrific as was the introductory video on the history of NY.

Well-maintained, interesting exhibits overall but the collection is marred somewhat by its disjointed nature and display. Worth a visit, just don't expect any sort of comprehensive tie-in between exhibits. Overpriced even by NYC standards for what the return is. Clean restrooms and friendly employees

The Tiffany lamp collection is worth a visit, but the rest of the museum was not worthwhile, making the $16 admission for a senior a little steep. We also visited the library, which was free, to research my boyfriend's grandfather's residence in NYC. The staff was very helpful, and the resources were very extensive. It was an informative visit.

Visited museum in morning not busy ,great film on the story of New York (20 minute )
Only 7 people in large auditorium.Their exhibit on the Vietnam War was closed for refurbishment, big disappointment. There are many art mural exhibitions and an inter active children's exhibition.
