Just returned from a second stay at this hotel, and it will be our last. The first stay in January was just OK - room was good on the higher level (14th floor), but staff were odd and were not focused on service. On our second visit, the lobby was dirty and the furniture in disarray. No greeting at arrival, and then we got put in a terrible room - 307 - with different furnishings and decor from the rest of the hotel, in a poor state of repair (peeling wallpaper, scratched wood floor, dirty cushions on the sofa). It was on the third floor right above the House of Blues and the street, and looked like someplace a staff member might stay. It was totally different from our room in January, in every way (decor, comfort, cleanliness, amenities). When we called to ask to change rooms, we were told there were none. I went online to try to find an alternate hotel, only to see rooms available in the same hotel... finally, the next day, after far too much wrangling (and being asked to prove it was a bad room over and over again), we were moved to a regular room. The front desk staff were really rude and acted as if this was a huge imposition. Waiting to check out, the lobby was dirty and not the kind of place anyone would want to linger. When I checked out and was asked how my stay was, I said it was good except for the first night and the desk clerk couldn't care less. When I explained she said "you don't have to tell me twice." Yuck. Life is too short for bad service which is why I usually stay at Kimpton hotels, but this one is no longer on the list unless they get new management in place.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms seem better kept, and are quieter.

Super clean rooms, amazingly friendly staff, free cocktail hour from 5-6 pm and lovely selection of coffee, tea, iced coffee in the morning and accommodated dairy free...you thought of everything! This was my 2nd trip to the Kimpton Palomar and I'll be back!

Suite at the Kimpton Palomar San Diego was lovely. Bathroom and shower are quite lovely. Just wish the water got hotter.

Leah was wonderful at check-iin and Rosille took my breakfast order each morning and was quite helpful and friendly. Only bummer..kitchen offers gluten-free toast but was out of it most of my stay.

The Mexican restaurant attached to the hotel also had nice and staff, but the food wasn’t that exciting.

This hotel was great.!
Had never been before,staff was great,pool was clean and heated as well as pool bar,room was clean and just as pictures showed. Amazing food and great drinks.! As well as a little free wine and such happy hour daily in the lobby.
Will definitely be back when I visit the area.!
5 stars all the way

We travel frequently and admittedly it takes alot to impress us but this hotel has managed to exceed our expectations in every area! Aside from the great location and awesome views, the thing that impressed us most was the amazing service provided from check in, the complimentary morning coffee bar (which even offered iced coffee!!) to the bar tender at the pool,(skinny marg was one of the best I've had!) breakfast service at CuraDero (really great breakfast tacos!), the in room dining team, and the manager who even checked to ensure everything was going well with our stay! When in San Diego again we will absolutely stay at Hotel Palomar and look forward to a return soon!

Room Tip: Upgrade to one of the penthouse rooms. Worth it!
