Had a pleasant dinner at Isa’s last night. The place was surprisingly empty at 7 PM on a Tuesday evening with only 3 or 4 tables occupied.
We were promptly seated and brought our drinks. We started with the $10 Deviled Duck Eggs, which were really disappointing. Four half eggs with relatively bland “deviled” filling topped with a dollop of caviar and served on a bed of micro greens. The eggs were small and looked more like chicken eggs rather than duck. There was no distinct flavor to this dish. I would not recommend this starter.
Dinners were much better. I had the grilled pork chop feature which was served with grilled mixed vegetables. The Berkshire bone-in chop was huge, probably over 2 inches tall and was perfectly cooked to medium. The chop was very tender and worked well with the jus and roasted cauliflower, zucchini and mushrooms. Another in our party had the lamb chops served with wilted spinach and risotto. The lamb was perfectly cooked and was tender and delicious. The risotto was very flavorful and tasty, but didn’t have a very creamy consistency. The spinach was perfect. The house bread was very good. Little warm crunchy loaves served with good quality butter.
Service was very good, which wasn’t surprising since the place was nearly empty. Our server was attentive and seemed to know the menu well. We availed ourselves of the free valet parking, which is nice in Asheville where parking spots are difficult to find.
