Stayed in the "Cabin at the Trailside."

Negatives:
This was not really a cabin so much as a modular home that was built to look like a cabin. The cabin was not secluded as we imagined as we could see and hear the couple staying in the "Cabin in the Woods" as it was a little below our cabin and off to the left. One of the jets to the hot tub was broken and would suck in too much water and make a loud gurgling sound which was far from relaxing. We also happened to stay in this cabin on one of the coldest nights of the season so far. Kaye (the owner/manager) gave us some tips on how to keep the place warm at night, but the fireplace/heater simply could not push enough heat to the bedroom which is on the opposite side of the cabin. We both slept in our clothes and shoes with multiple blankets on top of us. One of the more miserable experiences considering we were there to relax. We let Kaye know about the heating issue and her response was a bit dismissive by stating, "we've stayed up here in the winter and have been just fine, we must be used to something a little different." My husband deployed four times to Afghanistan and said the experience was similar to staying the winter in the Hindu Kush. I don't think it was because we were being babies that we complained. The toilet plunger broke on our first night. We let Kaye know the next day about the issue and not blaming her as this was Sunday afternoon, but it couldn't get fixed. We had to stick our hands in the toilet tank every time we needed to flush it. Pretty gross considering it's a rental cabin. YUCK.

Positives:
Kaye met us at the cabin promptly and gave us a very thorough and informative run down of the area, roads, restaurants and how to take care of the cabin while we were there. The cabin was very clean and very well supplied. Quite cute and the perfect size for a couple to hang out. When we let her know how cold the cabin was at night, although her attitude was dismissive, she brought us an additional electric heater immediately which was completely appreciated.

OVERALL:
A well kept, clean place, but with some issues that really couldn't be overlooked. At $170 a night, we would have expected a bit more.

For the benefit of future guests: please be assured that our cabins are made of logs. All of the perimeter walls are constructed with square cut logs which form both the exterior and interior wall. Only the wholly interior walls are not log, as is common in modern log cabins. Three of four walls in the living room/dining area and bedroom are actual logs, and the bathroom has one actual log wall. The kitchen log wall is mostly hidden behind cabinets.
I am sorry you were unhappy with your stay in our log cabin. We do provide instructions, both verbal and written, about how to work the fireplace and additional heating. I am sorry that you thought my attitude was “dismissive”, that was not my intent at all. I am particularly disappointed that you did not let us know you were having a problem as soon as it happened. How sad to think that you suffered through a particularly cold night when we were only a minute away and would gladly have brought you one of the portable heaters we keep on hand (we use them to conserve propane in freezing weather when the cabins are unoccupied). I’m glad the one we brought when you did call the next day worked well for you. We have of course inspected both heat supplies to ensure that they are working correctly.

As for the toilet handle breaking while you were here, I do apologize. We are now inspecting the handles in all of the cabins and if any others are plastic, we are replacing them with metal as we did the one in your cabin. I did inquire of your husband whether we should fix it right away, he assured me that it was a minor problem that we could fix after your stay. We take very good care of our wonderful cabins but occasionally something does break while a guest is occupying the cabin. In the rare case that a minor problem occurs in a cabin during a guest’s visit we do try to respect people’s desire for privacy and inquire whether they prefer us to repair it while they are in residence or not.
I am also sorry you heard voices. They do carry further in wintertime when the leaves are off the trees. If you had let us know we would have asked the guests to be a little quieter. As for the noise in the hot tub, we have consulted the service people and are trying to duplicate it and will have it serviced as soon as we are able to duplicate it for the service technician.

We stayed in the Cabin on the Hill cabin: My husband and I were very excited to go on an anniversary trip this year to North Carolina. We also brought along our 4 month old daughter and found these cabins perfect for our needs. We were a little afraid to take the baby on such a big trip with her being so small, but these cabins were so quiet and had a perfect layout so that she had her own space to sleep. We found it very relaxing to be able to take her monitor out on the front porch with us so we could spend some time in the hot tub and enjoy the beautiful night time. This cabin was perfect for cooking breakfast every morning and being able to make lunch to take with us on our day trips. This is the best way to see the outdoors and everything Hendersonville, NC has to offer, much better than a hotel. We have already recommended this cabin to my cousins who love the outdoors and we are hoping to one day come back ourselves.
