The town itself has a lot more to offer than the building that John Brown made his last stand but it has to be the centre piece all be it that it has been moved from it's original site. Just as important is the fact the town changed hands 8 times during the Civil War.

Although the "fort" is a photo op, across the street is the best musuem in Harper's Ferry. Although most of the museums are only one or two rooms, the John Brown Musuem does an in-depth study of the attack, the connection with slavery, and how the even helped lead to the Civil War. This, along with the fort, gives a strong overview of the events in 1859.

This is one of the many places to visit at Harper's Ferry. Historically it is interesting but there is not much to see. You cannot go in it. The museum it the place to go here.

John Brown's Fort is a name given to a Harpers Ferry Center Piece: Fire and Guard House.

Required visit.

We suggest reading the History of a Complex Man, who was anything but crazy.
