Owner description: Discover the beauty and diversity of Northern California aquatic life at Aquarium of the Bay. Located on the historic San Francisco waterfront at PIER 39, the Aquarium is home to more than 20,000 marine animals including sleek sharks and rays, secretive octopus, hypnotic jellyfish, sparkling anchovies, frolicking river otters, and many more.

It is small and not really entertaining. Better things to use your time for in SF. Especially the price/value ratio is really not acceptable as it sets expectations in line with their marketing (overselling).

The price of the ticket not only ensures smooth operations of our facility but also supports our sister organizations that are involved in restoration projects, research, education and conservation.

Lovely little place, not the biggest of the aquariums but some beautiful things to see. The river otters were a high point for me! The interactions pools are also great whether you’re a child or an adult!

We are delighted that you had a great experience. Thank you for visiting and supporting our goal to preserve the local watershed and to promote conservation education. We encourage you to visit and explore our sister organizations, including the Sea Lion Center, located at the end of PIER 39 just above the sea lion docks.

The Aquarium has some nice exhibits and interactive displays in some locations. It's a small footprint so has multiple levels and a tight layout. The underwater tunnel is certainly the highlight of the facility with lots of different species to observe. There was a 'petting' pool with manta rays, starfish and various sea life as well. We had purchased the San Fran Go Card so it was essentially one of several available 'Free' admissions but I have to admit, if it wasn't included, I would have found it disappointing at 'Full' price. That being said, there are different programs they run that your admission covers but I can't recall what or when they were. Check out their site!

A quiet small but nice aquarium - discover the octopus or look at the otters and see than play - touch a starfish or a shark

Beyond our standard exhibits, we conduct various educational talks, scientific experiments and other special activities throughout the day. Your ticket is good all day so you can enjoy all the programs we offer. In addition, we offer free educational programming at the Sea Lion Center, located at the back of PIER 39 above the docks with the sea lions.

Aquarium was small but well put together. Pay the extra to do the behind the scenes tour (available only on certain days). Well worth your time.
