You are gastronomically transported to Vietnam. The food is fresh, incredibly flavored and exotic. Lots a fun items on the menu to sample - you can’t go wrong with anything. If crab is in season, it’s amazing!

The Slanted Door is a regionally famous San Fransico Vietnamese food palace. They opened in the Mission district years ago, and became a sensation. So its grown and relocated to a waterfront spot in Ferry Terminal building. Gorgeous bar and waiting area with water views. Adventurous menu of many specialities. I had Cellophane noodles with crab that were excellently flavored, and in this car, a bit dry compared to my taste for moisture in a noodle dish.
I made a lunch acquaintance of the fellow sitting next to me and had a most pleasurable hour there. Excellent beer list, by the bottle.

From all my cumulative experiences here, Go, Go, Go !!

We had just arrived in SanFran and need to eat. Our fabulous local host took us to the Embarcadero and we were walking around the Ferry Building and noticed there was room at the Slanted Door. “I can’t believe we just walked in and they had room for us. We usually have to reserve weeks ahead. “ our host said. As the food arrived, we quickly saw why. Started with the tuna tartare- spicy with savory sesame rice crisps. Paired with an outstanding white blend Matthaisson. I’m not an oysters person, but had to try the fresh local catch. With some lemon they were lightly briney and were complimented by the Sauvignon Blanc in the blend. Try the spring rolls with the mint for a refreshing flavor surprise. And don’t miss the shaking beef. Filet marinaded in lime light soy and ginger and grilled for a light char. Service was excellent and a wonderful views of the bay and bay bridge. What a great way to start off our Cali - Sonoma-Napa trip.

This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant! No matter what I order, it is delicious, but the shaking beef is incredible. Everything is prepared with the best ingredients, and you can see all the attention to detail that goes into every dish. It presents a more sophisticated take on traditional Vietnamese staples. We have been many times, and it always exceeds our expectations. Last week we had: crispy spring rolls, clay pot chicken, sizzling beef, papaya salad, mixed vegetables and the beignets for dessert! Delicious!
