James and Heike have been renting stuff to tourists for more than 15 years. We first found them in 2003 and have gone back every year since. Every year, the rentals at the resorts go up in price so the difference between renting from the Marriott or Hyatt or Sheraton and renting from Kimo's gets greater and greater.
A couple tips are appropriate though:
James is a dyed in the wool local who loves his island. He does not abide fools well. If you engage him, he is one of the sweetest, most knowledgeable guys around. But I've also seen him get impatient with bumbling tourists.
One other tip: the more you chat him up and the more you rent, the more stuff he "throws in" with your rental. He even gave my daughter a great book to read (his own) based upon our conversation.
Go there. Patronize these locals rather than the rip off resort guys!
