Owner description: Lydgate Farms is run by our fifth generation Kaua’i family. We grow high-quality cacao to make the finest craft chocolate. We also grow award-winning vanilla and honey. Our 46-acre farm sits above the town of Kapa’a, between Sleeping Giant and Mt. Wai’ale’ale. Lydgate Farms is in an ahupua’a (land division) named Olohena, known for its rolling hills and the numerous springs and rivers that make this valley fertile for growing. Often called the Garden Island, Kaua’i is the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands and, as a result, has the most developed soils and fertile growing conditions. In addition to our specialty crops, you’ll find a wide variety of botanicals around our farm that influence the taste of our honey and chocolate. Visit us in Wailua for an interactive farm tour and chocolate tasting.

Andrea was awesome as our guide.
We love the stories, the information, the interaction, and not least, the tastings.
The fruit is all delicious and some are things we might not otherwise have tasted. The
chocolate yummy and interesting.
We enjoyed the tour 2 years ago and again this summer. If anything, Andrea is more informative and energetic. She makes the tour fun and interesting.
We rave about the tour and know at least 4 friends from Southern California who have taken our recommendations when visiting Kauai and loved the tour as well.

This tour turned out to be much better than I expected. Our host was informative and funny. We certainly tasted lots of chocolate but, we also learned about and tasted other local fruits. I would recommend this tour for anyone.

This was a very interesting tour. Probably not something you would get the chance to do in most places. We were able to try a variety of fruits we had never even heard of, as well as many different delicious chocolates. It was amazing to see the chocolate trees and fruits. I wish the

Our family of 7 from Ohio (including a teen and a one year old) had an incredible experience on this well organized yet relaxed tour! The people, Kate and Andrea, welcomed us to the farm with warmth and authenticity which followed throughout our visit! We LOVED tasting all of the unique to us freshly- picked organic fruits such as lychee, soursop, lognan and more during the first part of the tour. And the honey was beyond compare (just disappointed they were sold out.) After the walk through the fruit tree area/tasting we headed into the chocolate segment of the tour. We saw the trees where the chocolate is grown and sampled fresh off the tree - very bitter but fascinating to try! Kept thinking, “But it’s full of antioxidants!” After that was the history and delicious chocolate sampling portion, which was the longest part of the tour. We were under a tent for shade but beware, the mosquitoes were out in full force! Wear your bug spray!! (They provide some for you to use before the tour begins.) Two of the people in my family were so distracted by swatting mosquitoes I don’t think they heard much of the informative and interesting presentation. The talk included the history of chocolate interspersed with 8-10 samples of primarily dark chocolates - some from around the world and some directly from the farm. The Lydgate chocolates were our favorites and surprisingly the white chocolate sample (even though none of us like the typical white chocolate we get back at home.) Trust me, this tasted MUCH different. The baby didn’t do as well during this portion, as expected, but they provided an area off to the side for kids that had some toys and even a live animal or two for petting. They allow you to clean up all the leftover chocolate samples in case you did not get your fill during the presentation! Following the tour you have the low pressured option to purchase some products. Sadly, they were out of the white chocolate, but thoughtfully they gave my daughter a few extra samples to take with her!! She was thrilled and cherished them like gold the rest of the trip. The delicious 70% dark with sea salt chocolate bar I purchased, although I tried to savor it, is sadly gone, but every bit was thoroughly enjoyed! Our whole family agreed this was and OUTSTANDING tour and highly recommend it to others!
