Upon arrival we felt a bit disappointed with the hotel. We had read that it’s been recently renovated but it felt a bit tired. We got upgraded which was such a bonus but didn’t feel the room was anything special. The staff also weren’t very welcoming and mostly didn’t acknowledge us. Breakfast was quite disappointing - cartons of juice, cereal bars, individual boxes of sugary cereals - and it was served in a tiny room that was quite difficult to navigate among other guests and pretty impossible to sit in. However that just meant we sat outside which was lovely.
Staff in the Bull Shed restaurant also weren’t that friendly and the food is pretty expensive but it was tasty and fresh.

But we did LOVE the island and it was a good location to get to the north and south. If it had been cheaper we would have felt happier but it was beyond what we would normally pay for a hotel and no where near what we’d expect in terms of facilities and customer service.

Loved our room and view. The staff was great except for the rude man stationed at the desk. He never smiled, very unfriendly and could not be bothered with questions pertinent to our stay. He would accost guests about pool towels and demand to know room number as well as having to write it down on sign-in sheet, not too classy. When my husband asked to have our boarding passes printed he pointed to directions to do it on line without even looking up. He really needs to find another job that suits his personality like maybe... the soup nazi. Had it not been for "Mr. Personality" we would give it 5 stars. Kind of puts a cloud over paradise.

Room tip: Our room was on the south with a great view of the pool and ocean even from our bed. Sounds of the ocean lulled us to sleep.

We had a breathtaking view of the Pacific and sunrise from our 3rd floor room. I could see the view laying on the bed. Although I had a bad knee, I made it work. The view was that good that I didn't want to change rooms. We found the breakfast to be good and the guests and staff very accommodating. They give you a water bottle and a refill station. Oh yes, free bike rental and Yoga that we did not use. The only problem for me with a bad knee was the chaise's were too low, and in the room there was only 4 straight chairs, very uncomfortable. I finally bought a folding lawn chair that I donated back to them. There was no microwave and no desk space. Altho it was hot in the late afternoon, it cooled down quickly with the door and window open and was cold by morning. Since we had such a great ocean view, we didn't have to visit any beaches this trip. Would highly recommend IOS.

Room tip: above first floor so you can leave the patio door open at night.

Our family of three had a nice stay here in February 2020 in a room with two full beds. Our room had a view of the ocean, as did every other room, it seems. No AC, but none was needed; we just left the windows partially open in the room and bathroom. It was very windy when we visited, so there was plenty of ventilation. We didn't have to use the ceiling fan. The included in-room wi-fi was OK, and there was a fridge and TV in the room, but the freezer was not cold. There's no in-room safe. The included breakfast was fine to get us started. There was toast, cereal, pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, juice, milk, and coffee or tea. The breakfast room was small, but people either took food back to their room, or ate outside. We didn't use the pool, but it looked large enough to casually swim a few laps. There is a walking path that passes through this and adjacent hotels along the ocean; it's a nice easy walk.

The rooms are average with two queen beds (pillows are not comfortable) with ocean view so wake up early to enjoy the sunset. Breakfast is very poor - yogurt, bread, coffee/tea, fruit (usually one or two) and no even cheese or something like this. It has free yoga classes at dawn. Cleaning is awful as even the bath was not cleaned of sand and furniture of dust, glasses were not washed during the whole stay, etc.
Staff is ok but you don't feel warm welcome.
