“H202- beautiful, upscale condo at Waipouli Beach Resort”

This review is specific to Unit H202 at Waipouli Beach Resort. If you’d like to see more info about the resort itself, I have reviewed that separately.

We are a couple in our late 40’s and early 50’s, no kids and come to Kauai every 2 or 3 years for a 14 day vacation. We travel for work and stay at hotels all the time so when we vacay the last thing we want is another hotel. What we look for is somewhere that lets us feel like we live here and is not over run with kids and families. It’s also a much better bargain to rent a condo than a hotel room here on Kauai. We like things a bit more upscale and modern rather than beach house.

This was our 6th visit to Kauai and we usually stay at Puu Poa in Princeville. Since our usual condo wasn’t available we thought we’d try Waipouli. The location is fantastic- easy walking to shopping, restaurants, groceries, etc... That’s not so easy from Princeville. It’s also a much shorter drive to the southern and western parts of the island which is great for visiting Waimea or Poipu. Kapaa doesn’t have the lush greenery of the north shore, nor the exciting surf visible from the cliff tops at Puu Poa and we missed that. But it was nice being able to walk to the gym- Kauai Muscle and Fitness (about 15 minute walk). The pool is also much nicer at Waipouli.

H202 is a beautiful, upscale, well appointed condo. It has 2 good size bedrooms
each with it’s own en-suite bath. Full kitchen and living area. Washer and dryer, AC, assorted small kitchen appliances- drip coffee maker, Keurig, blender, rice cooker, toaster, etc., and hair dryers in bathrooms. There was an assortment of beach stuff including 2 beach chairs, mats, and I think some flippers. It was very clean and well maintained.

There is a wonderful view from the lanai, it gives you a front row seat for beautiful sunrises! One side faces the Oasis restaurant/bar and the other the ocean. I was a little afraid about the proximity of the restaurant but it was not an issue. We were concerned about how noisy it would be with the proximity to the pool and Oasis but it was not bad at all. There was live music one night/week and even then it was not overwhelming but enjoyable and if things get to loud just close the doors and you can block out the noise. The evening torch light around the grounds also makes for a romantic evening.

The master bathroom layout is a bit strange. I’m guessing this was a designer/builder call rather than owner. The master’s walk in shower was in a separate room connected to the master bath. This room contains a 3rd toilet and sink and serves as a powder room as it is also accessible from the main living area. Just not sure why they didn’t put the door to the shower inside the master bath? Not really an issue just strange. The master bedroom mattress is soon in need of replacing. It’s a regular spring mattress and has a well worn dip on one side. We actually moved to the guest bedroom with the tempur pedic mattress after a few nights because it was much more comfortable. The sheets and pillows were incredibly comfortable and very luxurious.

The kitchen was stocked enough to cook but a bit crowded for more than one person to be cooking at one time. There isn’t a ton of counter space but there is a small pantry. We like to cook a lot when we come to Kauai and while this condo has all the basics it is not what I’d consider ‘gourmet’. The appliances are all top of the line but it’s very basic and limited as far as the kitchenware goes, enough for someone to cook a piece of fish and some rice and veggies but not a full blown gourmet dinner.

There is free WiFi throughout the resort and H202 has it’s own dedicated as well. There are smart TVs in the bedrooms with Amazon and Netflix available but the living room TV is not smart and has a limited channel selection. This didn’t bother me as I don’t watch much TV on vacation but my husband complained. There is no stereo system though it was stated in the description I saw. There is a jam box in the closet with the beach stuff but I would never consider that to be a stereo.

There is AC but we never used it. The temperature was fine with just the doors open and ceiling fans on.

It’s beautiful and comfortable and has your basic needs. Great location in the complex and beautiful views. Leave the bedroom lanai doors open and can sleep to the sounds of the waves!

“Heaven”

The condo was wonderful. Great ocean front view, the sound of the waves was so relaxing. The unit had everything you could possibly need. Furniture was beautiful and very comfy. Bathrooms with great soaking tubs, just awesome. I would defiantly recommend this unit to all. The pool area was so much fun and the food and drinks at the restaurant was yummy. Aperfect vacation. Aloha and Mahalo.
