Location, location, location! This is the perfect spot for a sunset dinner. It is a bit pricy, but the food and drinks are delicious. They have live music every evening.

Restaurant was very busy but you can get an available high top table pretty quickly... food was great and entertainment was really good. Staff was friendly and attentive.

I first reviewed Lava Lava in 2013 when it was fairly new. My review stands, except I need to update that this spot has now become a little too popular, so it gets more crowded than ever. Apparently guides now recommend it. With success, comes crowds. We go a couple times a year, taking friends who are visiting the island. Go early to secure a good spot. And be prepared to get sunset pictures with lots of other sunset picture takers in them.

The sunset views are top notch. Food and drinks are decent, if at tourist pricey level. You can sit at the bar, have table dining, or score an oceanside couch. They have local live entertainment, usually a solo performer and hula dancer. Cornhole games are set up. You can usually find Hōnu (green sea turtles) lounging along the shore to the South.

This was our first stop after checking into our hotel. The sunset was beautiful and the atmosphere was unbeatable. Drinks were delicious, food was delicious, prices were so reasonable! It became a regular stop throughout our stay.

I'm kama'aina and this is one of the best places to sit with your toes in the sand, relax, have a drink or two (or more) and watch one of the Big Island's beautiful sunsets. Drinks, food, service and live music are always good. A little pricey (somewhere between moderate & expensive) because it's located on resort property, but the sunset and the ambiance is worth the visit. Go early to stake out a great table for sunset--the place fills up quickly.
