While all vacationing is expensive I felt that this resort heavily abused the fact that guests are a captured market with no close option for restaurants and grocery stores outside the resort. I ordered Mahi Ma with fries from pool side dining and after waiting for 30 mins I received something indistinguishable from a McDonald's dollar menu meal. In addition the wifi is $15/day. It seemed that at every turn the resort was abusing the captured market from the laughable expensive grocery store, to the overpriced restaurant to costly water sports available .

Aloha and thank you for taking the time to post your comments. All feedback is an important element of our business and we value your opinion. We apologize for the challenges you experienced during your stay. Our restaurant pricing is in line for this area with some very popular nightly specials. There are also some great stores and restaurants at the Queens Marketplace and the Kings Shops, both within walking distance. Again, please accept our apologies and we hope you enjoyed your time on the island of Hawaii.

This hotel definitely needs a face lift, but by the end of our stay, the good had definitely outweighed the bad. Awesome beach area with incredible sunsets, Lava Lava Beach Club is a blast and within walking distance. Convenient location to Kings & Queens shopping centers. I hope Marriott upgrades this hotel so I have a reason to go back!

Stayed on the 4th floor with ocean/pool view. The room was somewhat dated and the bathroom was tight on space. Staff were generally very friendly and helpful, although we did have to ask for coffee/tea as well as towels to be replenished after room was serviced - not sure why this was not done regularly, and as Marriott loyalist, I was disappointed. The valet option is only $3 more than self-parking, and definitely worth it since it allows for unlimited in-out privileges.

Grounds well maintained and great for kids and adults. There are nice trails and options for guided walks. There are multiple pools and hot tubs as well as a special partial sand-bottom pool for little kids, which is a great hit. A relatively uncrowded sand beach is right next to the hotel with lounge chairs and place to rent items for water activities - snorkeling, boats, etc; the bay is relatively calm making it great for younger kids. Luau's take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and from the "right" rooms, it is possible to view much of the action from the balcony. Hotel guests get a discount and the event lasts for about 3 hours.

The restaurant food was OKAY, but really expensive. Better options are neighboring (walk-able) King's Shops and Queen's Marketplace with restaurants and grocery/convenience stores - overall, better food both in terms of quality and prices. A food court serves a wide ranging choice of cuisine and the grocery store has a decent selection of prepared foods and souvenirs.

Locations of the hotel is away from the city and airport, so a good place if you want some seclusion from city life.

Arrived at 11pm and were quickly checked in with fantastic service. Resort was super clean and room w two queen beds was large enough for a comfortable stay for the week. Appeared that all rooms had a decent view and we certainly had a great view from 6288 where we ate our breakfasts and lunches. We had a great housekeeper, very timely and respectful, fabulous beach front with decent snorkelling, not too busy and always chairs available. Just had to find a couple that were not tied up with cable so you could move them around. We are not pool people but had to walk through to get to the beach and saw it was super clean and always staff out serving and cleaning. Pool towel hut w fantastic friendly staff was always available and always clean towels. Resort close to queens market for groceries and beer and a few decent restaurants if you wished to eat outside the resort which we did. Area was great for my morning runs. Loved it and will return for sure.

Room Tip: All seemed great. We loved being on top floor. No noise and easy access to all exits

My wife and I stayed at the Waikoloa Marriot in Dec 2015. We were both very pleased with the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms. We had a pool view room that you could also see the bay from, the deck was a nice size and we often had meals or drinks there. The pool area was very well kept and clean but we spent most of our time there at the beach. The beach is very nice and the water was almost always calm - you could easily step 10 feet into the water and put your snorkel gear on without getting bowled over by waves like we experienced on Kaanapali in Maui. If you swan approx. 500 yards off shoe the snorkeling was great and we always found a turtle or two.
There are 2 marketplaces directly behind the resort with restaurants and shops - everything you need but I would recommend buying any groceries in Kona as they are quite expensive in there. We bought groceries in Kona and had some meals in our room - things like tuna poke that can be kept in the little fridge. The restaurant and bar were pretty expensive on site.
I would recommend this resort and will probably stay here again.
