Just stayed here (7/31/18). The customer service was wonderful. She had so many places that she said to eat at. We took the homemade bread to go and family enjoyed it.
Pillows super comfy but the bed was not. If you like hard beds this is for you. I enjoy marshmallow beds, so not for me. Room was super cute and cozy.
Would stay again but only for one night.

Our trip to Hawaii and Volcano was planned long before the volcanic activity, so we chose Hale Ohia cottages due to it's proximity to the Volcano National Park. Unfortunately, due to the closure we couldn't go in, but the owner advised us where we could safely drive to see some of the plume which we did. This is a cute place, and the cottage we had (Camelia) was very comfortable, welcoming and cozy. Having continental breakfast in the room was nice meaning we could enjoy it once we woke up. There was lots of information regarding local sights, things to do and dining options which were very useful. Would highly recommend a stay here, and we would love to come back to Hawaii to visit the Volcano National Park, and would definitely stay here again! Aloha!

Aloha Emma,
Thank you so much for taking the time to review Hale Ohia. We emjoyed hosting you on your visit half way around the world!
We hope to have the pleasure in the future, hosting a return visit when the park reopens. Things are settling down and crowds will want to see what the activity has produced in the park.
Safe travels!
Kind regards,
Michael, Owner

The Hotel is made by cottages built in the early 19th in a very typical style and surrounded by a wonderful garden. The location is perfect for visiting the Volcano Park (the main entrance is at 500 mt from the Hotel). Very nice rooms and lobby with old and stylish furniture. The owner and the personnel are very very kind.

Our family stayed in two cottages - Ihilani and Lehua. They were both unique and comfortable. The property is in a forest, so very quiet and peaceful. The Ihilani Cottage had a small covered area in back with a table and chairs; a good place to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.

It was nice to have the continental breakfast placed in the room on the previous afternoon, as everyone could enjoy a light breakfast whenever they got up. The fresh papaya and baked break was perfect, before we headed out for the day's adventure.

The staff was very friendly and provided information on activities. Due to the volcano activity, Volcanoes National Park closed a few days before our Big Island trip. Although we were not able to do our originally planned activity (hiking in the park), we enjoyed other activities on the Big Island, such as the Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo, Mauna Kea star gazing, hiking in VNP's Kahuku Forest, looking for turtles at Punaluu Black Sand Beach, etc.

On our next trip to the Big Island, we would definitely stay at Hale Ohia again!

Hale Ohia Cottages have always been my favorite refuge from the hustle of Honolulu. It's almost like going to the Redwood Forest or New England, but very very unique in its own way. There is no place on earth with a drive-up active volcano and the luxury of Hale Ohia a mile away.
Hale Ohia is Hawaiian rustic and modern at the same time.
I had to go and witness Pele in action. Although the Park is closed one can still see the power and energy of Kilauea's Hale Mau'mau' crater.
It is safe and the air is clear. The active lava flows are 20 miles downslope.

As a returning guests, thank you for your support during this historic time on the Big Island. We hope that the world can see that Volcano still remains an exciting and unique part of any Hawaii vacation or like you, an escape from the hustle of Honolulu. Community business leaders met last night to discuss 'what now'? How can we battle the hyper-exaggerated news media? We can't. We can continue to get real news and accurate information out to all guests one by one and continue to offer exceptional lodging to all guests.
Again, thanks and we look forward as always to hosting our kamaaina for return visits to this beautiful part of the Big Island.
