The Hotel is made by cottages built in the early 19th in a very typical style and surrounded by a wonderful garden. The location is perfect for visiting the Volcano Park (the main entrance is at 500 mt from the Hotel). Very nice rooms and lobby with old and stylish furniture. The owner and the personnel are very very kind.

Our family stayed in two cottages - Ihilani and Lehua. They were both unique and comfortable. The property is in a forest, so very quiet and peaceful. The Ihilani Cottage had a small covered area in back with a table and chairs; a good place to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.

It was nice to have the continental breakfast placed in the room on the previous afternoon, as everyone could enjoy a light breakfast whenever they got up. The fresh papaya and baked break was perfect, before we headed out for the day's adventure.

The staff was very friendly and provided information on activities. Due to the volcano activity, Volcanoes National Park closed a few days before our Big Island trip. Although we were not able to do our originally planned activity (hiking in the park), we enjoyed other activities on the Big Island, such as the Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo, Mauna Kea star gazing, hiking in VNP's Kahuku Forest, looking for turtles at Punaluu Black Sand Beach, etc.

On our next trip to the Big Island, we would definitely stay at Hale Ohia again!

Hale Ohia Cottages have always been my favorite refuge from the hustle of Honolulu. It's almost like going to the Redwood Forest or New England, but very very unique in its own way. There is no place on earth with a drive-up active volcano and the luxury of Hale Ohia a mile away.
Hale Ohia is Hawaiian rustic and modern at the same time.
I had to go and witness Pele in action. Although the Park is closed one can still see the power and energy of Kilauea's Hale Mau'mau' crater.
It is safe and the air is clear. The active lava flows are 20 miles downslope.

As a returning guests, thank you for your support during this historic time on the Big Island. We hope that the world can see that Volcano still remains an exciting and unique part of any Hawaii vacation or like you, an escape from the hustle of Honolulu. Community business leaders met last night to discuss 'what now'? How can we battle the hyper-exaggerated news media? We can't. We can continue to get real news and accurate information out to all guests one by one and continue to offer exceptional lodging to all guests.
Again, thanks and we look forward as always to hosting our kamaaina for return visits to this beautiful part of the Big Island.

I really don‘t understand the recent bad review on tripadvisor. We stayed at the cottage for two nights and enjoyed it very much! Despite the closure of the N.P. the receptionist gave us plenty of alternatives to see and explore, that made our stay very interesting. They also answered all questions regarding the volcano, as for us Swiss this is not something daily... They also gave us ideas for dining, we did not even need to ask for and the recommendations were very good. As for the cottage, it was clean and we had like a little flat with ample space. It was very romantic in der the woods. Thanks for the great stay!

Just had to fly to the Big Island tand visit Hale Ohia Cottages during these most exciting times. Top notch accommodations. The rooms were comfortable in every way. Very clean and well maintained. There are new suites with heated bathroom floors. We had units HO2-3 and HO2-4. Contemporary mixed with subtle old world charm. Impressive. Great customer service along with a tasty, private breakfast both mornings. The grounds are breath taking. We strolled through the property in the early morning. The sky was so blue. There was excitement within the clean, crisp, fresh air. Volcano Village was a bit bustling with tourists anxious to see what goddess Pele might do next. Hwy-11 is open and worth the drive past the summit of Kilauea. All worth the chance of a life time. At night, we enjoyed Ohelo Cafe for dinner. We are so happy we made the visit. Thank you Hale Ohia Cottages!!
