“Amazing, cozy house with spectacular views; let the ocean sing you to sleep!”

This house is amazing. It's exactly what it looks like in the pictures. It has stunning views and a fun layout, along with beautiful interior finishes, furniture and accessories. The pool is warm, like a huge bathtub, and is just big enough to swim around in comfortably. The waves crash into the rocks below and you can sleep with the sliding door open, such that the ocean puts you to sleep. That's all you can hear from outside; we never saw or heard any neighbors in the evening.

As you can see from the map, there's not too much nearby — this house is perfect for a getaway with a focus on R&R. Pahoa is about 15 minutes away and has surprisingly great restaurants, but it's far enough such that you don't want to go there all the time. The Wednesday evening market in Kalapana is very close and is a huge draw for folks in the area. Otherwise, there's not much going on near the house. Kehena beach is popular but was never crowded.

We were slightly worried about the weather on this side of the island — but it was great. It stayed hot enough to be comfortable in a T-shirt and shorts at all times, and we only had some light drizzle during the day a couple times. It commonly rained at night.

Tips:
- Bring or purchase snorkel gear and reef shoes; they're available at Target/Walmart or the local market. You'll need them at the beach next door and for nearby snorkeling spots.
- Buy lots of food. The house has great cookware and is well-equipped for cooking and grilling.
- There is no cell service (at least for Verizon or AT&T), but the wifi is solid.
- The pool is not a hot tub, but it's warm and you can make it warmer with a heater.

“Gorgeous view”
Reviewed 15 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

The home is placed right on the cliff of the ocean. Gorgeous view. Romantic. It was so relaxing sitting on the balconies just watching and listing to the waves. Catch the sun in the morning on the oceanside balconies and on the front porch in the afternoon and evening. The coakie frogs were very loud while we were there. My husband slept right through them but I had a hard time sleeping. It wouldn't keep me from staying here again but I would recommend ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

“Private Relaxing Paradise”

The Good:
Fantastic waterfront (cliff-front) house with great crashing wave sound.
Very Private
Incredible pool with swim spa
Very nicely furnished with full kitchen.
Close to the lava flows (if they are flowing)

The Bad:
Mosquitoes! The Large Sliding windows in the main living area and the bedroom have no screens, so when we left these open for the breeze, we were eaten alive. Our fault, but had no idea how bad it would be.

There is a book with "things to do/eat" in the unit, but at no time did it mention a small market (Next to Uncle Roberts) just a few miles down the road at the Lava field. We drove 18 miles round trip the first night just to get some groceries.

Small item, but, only 2 pillows in the entire house for sleeping. Would be nice to have a couple extra or an option for a different kind.

Overall a lovely stay. Would recommend to those that want to be away from the main areas, do a little swimming or go to the local beaches. A lot of driving if you plan on visiting the Volcano, Hilo, or the other side of the island.

Aloha Mark,

Mahalo for your review. We wish you could have called us about your concerns. We would have been happy to help and answer any questions you may have had and helped in any way we can. We are installing the screens for the sliding doors. The store down the street is small and expensive and not much of a variety to choose from. We recommend going to Pahoa as the selection and prices are better. Pahoa is only 9 miles away:)We have 4 pillows on the bed and extra 2 pillows in the bedroom dressers. We hope your next stay with us would be better. Mahalo again:)
